'ICE Off Our Streets!': Feds Shoot and Wound NYC Man with a Child in His Car
Protests kicked off immediately after the news broke: federal immigration agents shot and wounded a man in the Marble Hill, New York City, last night. According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, at least one agent fired seven shots into the man's car, which had a 5-year-old boy in the back seat. The child was fortunately uninjured, at least physically. The man, 28-year-old Oscar Begal, survived, with one round striking him below his left ear.
"How could you do this?" asked school therapist Iris Rosa, who witnessed the aftermath of the shooting, including agents holding the child who was stunned into silence. Another eyewitness tells the City Reporter that Begal was carried away by his arms and legs, with agents tapping his face to keep him from losing consciousness.
"There is no justification for what we have seen today," NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani said, accusing the Trump regime of "terrorizing our city." Mamdani, who has enjoyed a bizarrely friendly relationship with Donald Trump – at least until now – said he spent two hours on the phone with Trump and Homeland Security secretary Markwayne Mullin trying two negotiate Begal's release. "Instead," the New York Times reports, "ICE agents put Mr. Belgal in an unmarked man and whisked him away."
Wired Magazine reports that one ICE agent photographed with an AR-15-style rifle at the shooting scene last night, Brenden Cuni, "has repeatedly been at the center of illegal ICE street arrests in New York and beyond."
"Court filings accuse him of using a Taser on a handcuffed man, while activists have alleged he is one of the agents seen forcing a pregnant woman to the ground during a Minneapolis operation. In recent months, federal judges have repeatedly found arrests involving Cuni unlawful. One judge called an arrest warrant he signed 'fraudulent,' while another said that video evidence contradicts his sworn account of an arrest; in a third case, the government withdrew his sworn statements as inaccurate.
"New York City will not stand by while ICE agents shoot New Yorkers, and we will not back down from the demand that so many, including myself, have put forward time and again," Mayor Mamdani wrote. "This is an agency that must be abolished."

Pentagon Plans to Stream Execution of Servicemember
Pyscho Pete Hegseth's "Department of War" announced yesterday that it would livestream the execution by firing squad of US Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who killed 13 people in a mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009. "Such a broadcast has little precedent," the New York Times drily notes, "and releasing video of executions is most often associated with extremist militant groups like the Islamic State." More straightforward critics likened the spectacle to a lynching, noting, "if the shooter was white, I don’t believe this would be public."
Meanwhile, Christa Pike, who survived a botched execution by lethal injection in Tennessee last week, has begun eating and walking again with assistance. "She should never be subjected to another execution attempt," say her lawyers, who are asking Republican Gov. Bill Lee to commute the 50-year-old's death sentence to life in prison.
