Iran War to Escalate After the Midterms, Possibly Before

Iran offered the desperate Donald Trump a special pre-midterms peace deal last week. He evidently rejected it. Instead, he's preparing to escalate his failing and illegal war of choice into a guaranteed quagmire, ordering thousands of sailors and Marines to the Middle East in the weeks ahead.

The Associated Press says "roughly 9,000' troops are headed to the region and expected to arrive by the end of October. The Washington Post puts the number at "nearly 20,000" troops, in addition to the 50,000 already deployed in the Middle East, plus "up to 150 fighter jets and numerous destroyers capable of launching and fending off missile attacks."

On top of that, Trump told Time Magazine yesterday that "he may ramp up the bombing" of Iran after the midterm elections in early November. It's unclear whether some kind of ground invasion is in the works, but Trump has never publicly ruled it out.

Iran, of course, gets a vote on when and how this war ends. Yesterday in the United Kingdom, a British-Iranian dual citizen was arrested on terrorism charges related to an explosives scare on Sunday at a Royal Air Force base used by US warplanes that have been attacking Iran, which has denied any involvement in a case still "shrouded in mystery."

And Trump, meanwhile, indicated that "based on what I’m hearing," Iran was linked to the Wednesday stabbing of the pilot of a FlyDubai plane bound for Israel by his copilot. There's been no confirmation of the attacker's motive, but that isn't stopping Trump from seizing on the incident to justify further strikes on Iran. As HuffPost reports:

"'Oh, they’ll be hit, very hard, don’t worry,' Trump said after a reporter asked if Tehran would be targeted in response to the incident.
"'You just ask them,' Trump said of the Iranian government. 'They know what happened. They'll be hit very hard.'"

Crypto Conman Living Like a King After Trump Pardon

Cryptocurrencies are a prime vehicle for corruption today, not only for the Trump regime but for its friends around the world. The New York Times checks in on "the richest man in crypto," Changpeng Zhao, head of Binance, "a crypto exchange depicted in court papers as a haven for Russian money launderers, Iranian sanctions evaders and Islamic State terrorists." He pleaded guilty, served a four-month prison sentence in the US, got pardoned by Donald Trump, returned to Abu Dhabi, and now "moves through the world like a head of state, flying around Asia on his private jet to advise governments on crypto regulation." It's a predictable turn, perhaps, given that Zhao is one of the Trump family's key business partners through World Liberty Financial, which earned the family nearly $1 billion last year.

Meanwhile, Politico reports that Trump is hosting another private dinner for the top investors in his $TRUMP crypto coin next month. "He's a grifter," one young crypto investor who attended Trump's last crypto dinner complains to the Washington Post. "Many things can be said about Donald Trump, but he knows how to make money. Not necessarily in an honest way." Game recognize game.

That's how much of the State Department's principal human rights fund has been redirected toward far-right causes around the world by the Trump regime, according to the Guardian. The slate of awards "includes a huge $40 million grant for an anti-communism fund, support for a group advancing white Afrikaner rights in South Africa, a campaign against Brazil's supreme court and programs that would reward ideological allies in Europe who protect 'western civilizational norms.'" Brazilian Attorney General Jorge Messias yesterday called for an investigation, saying foreign meddling "cannot be tolerated."
