'Unless you can cut a check for his ballroom, Donald Trump clearly couldn't care less about you.'" via Politico and the Washington Post.
  • Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Says She Won't Run for President in 2028, Then Walks It Back Meanwhile, leftist Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed took an aggressive posture in a televised debate with his centrist rivals, calling out the pro-Israel funding taken by Mallory McMorrow and Haley Stevens. via the Detroit News, the Michigan Advance, and the New York Times.
  • New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani Endorses Avila Chevalier, DSA-Backed Candidate to Challenge Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat "This is a New Yorker who has not only secured the release of our neighbors from undue ICE custody, also someone who has been on the front lines of that fight for affordability, and I can't wait for her to be introduced to so many across the city and across this country, as we fight for that affordability agenda from New York City to DC," Mamdani says. via The City, the New York Times, and Politico.
  • Republican Reality TV Star Running for Los Angeles Mayor, Spencer Pratt, Says 'People Don't Care' He Got Trump's Endorsement Meanwhile, a poll shows Democratic Attorney General Xavier Becerra having opened up a sizable lead in the gubernatorial open primary race. via NBC News, Politico, and the Los Angeles Times.

Michelle Lujan Grisham, a Democrat, told reporters on the sidelines of a Democratic National Committee meeting in Washington on Thursday. 'What I need to do is to focus on making a difference in the lives of people. And that's what I think they're getting really frustrated about, is all this nonsense. I don't think the average Democratic voter, honestly, particularly in New Mexico, gives a damn about that book or the debate anymore.'" via Politico.

War on Iran: Deal or No Deal?

American and Iranian sources say the two sides of Donald Trump's illegal war have reached a tentative deal to end it, the Washington Post reports. Trump himself has yet to sign off on the deal -- and, as the New York Times notes, "several others like it have fallen apart." Trump has also shared the draft agreement with Israel, whose leaders are unlikely to be happy with it, according to the Guardian, "because it defers Iran making any firm nuclear commitments and requires a permanent ceasefire to include Lebanon." Indeed, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir went so far as to say that his government "will not allow" a "bad deal." Meanwhile, the fighting continues despite a ceasefire, with Iran firing missiles at a US base in Kuwait, and the US striking drone stations in Iran's Bandar Abbas region.

Who Will Stop Trump Family From Robbing the Treasury?

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is planning to put his boss Donald Trump's face on a new $250 bill, the Washington Post and the Associated Press report. No doubt he'll stack those personalized bills as high as the ceilings of Mar-a-Lago allow once he cashes in on his $1.8 billion slush fund. As Politico reports, tax experts say Trump himself "appears to be the beneficiary of the $1.8 billion, even if the money is eventually routed to others." That means he could be liable for taxes on the slush fund – but of course the Justice Department has decreed that he and his family are immune to IRS audits.

It's hard to keep up with the daily flurry of Trumpian corruption. Dell, a company Trump promoted after buying its stock, just won a $9.7 billion Pentagon contract, the Post reports. And ProPublica reports that the White House ordered the Pentagon to extend a $620 million loan to Vulcan Elements, "a small North Carolina startup linked to Donald Trump Jr." Friends of the Trump crime family also benefit from this wholesale corruption. The New York Times reports that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission reversed its court victory over a Bitcoin business owned by the Winklevoss twins, who've invested in Trump family companies. Inshallah Trump's first felony conviction won't be his last.

QUICKEST QUICKIES

  • Criminal Investigation Into Trump's Rape Victim,, E. Jean Carroll, Also Targets Democratic Donor Reid Hoffman, Who Paid Her Legal Bills "'Two of the reasons survivors of sexual abuse often don't come forward are, first, a fear of not being believed, and second, a fear of retaliation,' said Jacqueline Kelly, a former federal prosecutor in Manhattan who led the unit that investigated civil rights offenses, including sexual abuse and exploitation. 'Putting a survivor in the cross hairs of a federal criminal investigation involving perjury strikes at both of those fears.'" via the Washington Post, the New York Times, and the Associated Press.
  • Bolsonaro Family Lobbying Prompts US to Label Two Brazilian Gangs as Terrorist Groups "It has raised concerns among Brazilian officials that the United States may be trying to sway its upcoming election by helping another Bolsonaro" – namely Jair's son Flávio, who "has said he will challenge President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a leftist, in October and has accused Mr. Lula of being soft on crime." via the New York Times and the AP.
  • Disney-Owned ABC Fights Back Against Regime Censorship By FCC In a filing with the broadcasting regulator, ABC noted that the Commission's threat against its licenses came "just after [Donald] Trump and the first lady, Melania Trump, called for the firing of the ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel over a joke he told about them in a monologue." via the New York Times and Politico.
  • No Casualties Reported as Jeff Bezos Space Rocket Goes Boom on Florida Launchpad "The accident could have big implications for Blue Origin, NASA and the United States' moon plans." via the AP and Space.com.

SOME NUMBER

70 percent

That's how much of Gaza that far-right Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the Israeli military to seize, in violation of the October ceasefire brokered by the United States. "Netanyahu is now declaring the whole Trump deal, the framework for Gaza, to be null and void," Muhammad Shehada of the European Council on Foreign Relations, tells the Guardian. "That's what it means in a nutshell. There's no other way to spell it out."

PARTING WORDS

"My sister and I were shocked to see our name, 'Milli Vanilli,' as one of the performers."

-- Musician Jodie Rocco, speaking to the Associated Press about her surprise at being booked at a MAGA music event in July in Washington, DC, called Freedom 250. Other artists supposedly scheduled for the concert, including Young MC and Freedom Williams of C+C Music Factory, have confirmed that they weren't told about Donald Trump's involvement, prompting what the AP calls a "wave of cancellations."

Meanwhile, the New York Times reports that there have been at least two undisclosed diesel spills at the National Mall during preparations for Freedom 250. The environmental impact is unclear but the fuel is toxic and "evaporates more slowly than gasoline, meaning it can remain in the environment for extended periods." A Trump-connected contractor, Event Strategies, is managing the festivities.
