Florida GOP Power Couple's 'Third' Files a Police Report - The Friday AM Quickie 12/1/23

Does anyone actually believe that MSNBC's decision to cancel Medhi Hasan's show was, as an anonymous network source claims, "unrelated to his commentary about Israel and Gaza"? It's like Phil Donahue all over again. Jacob returns Monday, then I'm covering the rest of next week. - Corey

Biden's EPA Wants to Replace All Lead Water Pipes

Finally! Millions of Americans drink water from old lead pipes that can contribute to heart disease in adults and cause irreversible cognitive damage to children. After decades of neglect by both Republican and Democratic governments, President Joe Biden promised to replace all 9 million or so lead pipes across the country. Now, with a new proposed rule from the Environmental Protection Agency, he's following through. Environmental groups and children's advocates are hailing the decision, announced yesterday by EPA Administrator Michael Regan, but some muncipial water utilities caution that the $45 billion plan amounts to an "unfunded mandate." That may be, but consider: who pays the costs of lead exposure? "This is like a pediatrician's dream come true," Michigan State University professor Mona Hanna-Attisha, whose research helped expose the Flint water crisis, tells the Washington Post.

Israeli Military Had Hamas Attack Plans a Year Ago and Ignored Specific, Urgent Warnings

The New York Times reports:

The approximately 40-page document, which the Israeli authorities code-named 'Jericho Wall,' outlined, point by point, exactly the kind of devastating invasion that led to the deaths of about 1,200 people. ...
Then, in July, just three months before the attacks, a veteran analyst with Unit 8200, Israel's signals intelligence agency, warned that Hamas had conducted an intense, daylong training exercise that appeared similar to what was outlined in the blueprint.
But a colonel in the Gaza division brushed off her concerns, according to encrypted emails viewed by The Times.

Oops. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Antony Blinken claims Israel has agreed to put "a premium on protecting civilians" when it resumes its Gaza invasion, as the United Nation warns the next stage of the war could push 1 million hungry Palestinian refugees into Egypt, and settler violence in the West Bank continues to increase.

"I thought things would get worse [for me when Nancy Pelosi stepped down as House Speaker in January]. I thought a lot of my misery was due to leadership more broadly having a thing against me. But [since then] my life has completely transformed. It's crazy. And it's that that made me realize it was kind of just [Pelosi's personal grudge] the whole time. Now, senior members talk to me, [committee] chairs are nice to me, people want to work together. I'm shocked. I couldn't even get floor time before."

-- New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, speaking to journalist Ryan Grim for his upcoming book, "The Squad: AOC and the Hope of a Political Revolution," excerpted by HuffPost.
