Will DOJ Honor Today's Deadline for Release of the Epstein Files? - The Friday AM Quickie 12/19/25
Republicans are being very nasty and unfair about Donald Trump's perfect prime-time speech. If they really cared about him, they'd put him on TV every night to say whatever he wants, for as long as he wants, to show everyone how well he is, despite the visible swelling. Instead, they're trying to censor the president. I say let him cook! Hail to the chef! Anyway, I'm off, and Whitney's back Monday. Expect shorter newsletters through the holidays. Cheers! - Corey

THE BIG NEWS
Roofies at Mar-a-Lago: Trump and His Best Buddy Epstein 'Hunted' Young Models Together
By the end of the day today, the Justice Department must release most of its files on the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, under the Epstein Files Transparency Act passed by Congress last month. Trump's DOJ has given no indication what they may release and what they will try to keep secret – but the regime is guaranteed to face a bipartisan backlash if they fail to comply with the law.
Not to be overshadowed by whatever the DOJ does, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released another batch of photos they obtained from Epstein's estate yesterday. They're as creepy as the last batch and sometimes moreso, with several photos showing lines from Vladimir Nabokov's novel "Lolita" written on a woman's body. Others show billionaires Bill Gates and Sergey Brin, conservative New York Times columnist David Brooks, leftist professor Noam Chomsky, and Trump adviser Steve Bannon.
Meanwhile, the New York Times published another blockbuster investigation into Epstein's longstanding friendship with Donald Trump. The friendship began in the late 1980s and centered around their "pursu[it of] women in a game of ego and dominance." One model who was groped by Trump in Epstein's presence likens their abusive game to "trophy hunting." Another Epstein victim says Trump was present at four parties at Epstein's home in which Epstein directed her to have sex with male guests – but not Trump, who remains an adjudicated rapist.
Another model who worked for an agency linked to Epstein tells the time she believes someone spiked her champagne at a Mar-a-Lago party in 1998. And perhaps most damningly, the mother of a model who was only 14 years old in 1994 recalls repeatedly taking away champagne that was served to her daughter at a Mar-a-Lago where she was instructed to "dress sexy." At one point, the model's mother says, Trump's then-wife Marla Maples stopped her in the bathroom, clasped her hand, and looked her in the eye. "Whatever you do, do not let [your daughter] around any of these men, and especially my husband," Maples said. "Protect her."
We don't need the government's files to know what Trump got up to with his "best friend."

Anti-Antifascist Crackdown Is Built on Lies
The rightwing fantasy of a violent left crumbles under the lightest scrutiny, but nevertheless is essential to the Trump regime's crackdown on the freedoms of speech, assembly, and association. The Associated Press examined 166 federal criminal cases brought against anti-ICE protesters and others arrested in Democratic-led cities during the regime's paramilitary clampdown. More than half of those charged felony assaults on federal agents had their charges reduced to misdemeanors or dismissed. And all five defendants who took their cases to trial were acquitted. Former federal prosecutor turned Georgetown University law professor Mary McCord says the data show "the government is being extremely aggressive and charging for things that ordinarily wouldn't be charged at all."
Meanwhile, yesterday was the first in a series of deadlines for federal law enforcement agencies to turn over their intelligence files on "Antifa-related" activities to the FBI, which will lead Attorney General Pam Bondi's crackdown on leftist and liberal organizing, the Washington Post reports. "It is a throwback to McCarthyism and the worst abuses of [J. Edgar] Hoover's FBI to use federal law enforcement against Americans purely because of their political beliefs or because they disagree with the current president's politics," Oregon Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden warns.
Regime's New Rules for Hospitals Seek to Erase Trans Youth
One day after a similar anti-trans bill sponsored by Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene passed the House, Donald Trump's executive branch acted to end gender-affirming care for youth across the country. Slandering the standards of care promoted by major American medical associations as "malpractice," Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said yesterday that hospitals that refused to stop providing gender-affirming treatments like puberty blockers and hormone therapies would lose federal funding – which would effectively force those hospitals to close.
The regime's new "anti-science" policy will harm an estimated 724,000 trans teens around the country – and all for the sake of boosting Republican turnout in next year's midterm elections as the party struggles to change the subject from Trump's failing economy.

SOME NUMBER
$6 billion
That's the purported value of an all-stock merger between Trump Media & Technology Group, the company that owns Truth Social, and TAE Technologies, a company developing nuclear fusion that has previously raised money from Chevron, Google, and Goldman Sachs.
Former Obama administration Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz serves on TAE's board, and former California GOP Rep. Devin Nunes, who now heads Trump Media, will be co-CEO of the combined company, which hopes to start construction of the "world’s first utility-scale fusion power plant" next year. That may be overly optimistic. One analyst tells the Associated Press that TAE needs constant capital infusions because profitability is a long way off.

PARTING WORDS
"A handful of wins is not the same as the rehabilitation of the Democratic brand, which is required to build real governing majorities and a national coalition. Achieving that requires real soul-searching and new ideas, and it would be nice for candidates and campaigns to know they had a partner in that hard work, instead of an institutional structure buried in the sand.”
-- Alyssa Cass, a Democratic Party operative in New York, speaking to the Washington Post about the Democratic National Committee's decision not to release its postmortem report on the lessons of the 2024 presidential campaign. By keeping the report private, the Post says, the party is keeping its conclusions "limited to a small group of insiders and dodging a public accounting that many Democrats believe is necessary to avoid repeating past mistakes."
