THE BIG NEWS
Trump Wants a $230 Million Payday on Taxpayer Dime
Donald Trump wants your money. That's been true for a long time, but it has perhaps never been so egregious as the latest corruption scheme cooked up in the rapidly crumbling White House. The New York Times reports that "Trump is demanding that the Justice Department pay him about $230 million in compensation for the federal investigations into him" – and that Trump himself will decide whether to approve any settlement from the taxypayers. The situation "has no parallel in American history," because there's never been such a flagrant crook in charge of the United States government.
Trump claims he "was damaged very greatly" by the multiple federal investigations into his crimes, such as stealing classified documents from the White House at the end of his first term, and unlawfully attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 election, which he lost. He also says he would give any money he gets from his DOJ complaints "to charity" – but if you believe that, you're probably a Fox News fiend and a sucker for all of his constant lies. He also said, per NBC News, that he might "give money 'to the White House while we restore the White House.'" In other words, he could use excess profits from his past crimes to pay for his latest offense.
This is the same guy who said he'd forego a presidential salary. "It's awfully strange to make a decision where I'm paying myself," Trump mused.
It's more than strange. It's a broad daylight robbery. Pace University ethics professor Bennett Gershman calls the situation "a travesty," adding, "The ethical conflict is just so basic and fundamental, you don’t need a law professor to explain it."
Meanwhile, food banks across the country are preparing for an influx of needy Americans who are losing SNAP benefits at the end of the month, all thanks to Trump and his Republican Party.

Trump Nominee with 'a Nazi Streak' Flops
Close readers of the newsletter are familiar with Paul Ingrassia, the 30-year-old bigoted blogger, podcaster, and second-term Trump White House fixture who's pals with professional hate-mongers like Nick Fuentes and Andrew Tate. Ingrassia wears many hats. He has been working as the Department of Homeland Security's White House liaison, but, until yesterday, he was also Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Office of Special Counsel, which investigates whistleblower claims and discrimination claims. On Monday, Politico reported that Ingrassia had sent private messages to fellow Republicans hating on Martin Luther King, Jr., using racial slurs, and admitting that "I do have a Nazi streak in me." The report, combined with the recent sexual harassment allegations against him, led at least five Senate Republicans to pull support for Ingrassia's confirmation and so yesterday he withdrew from consideration, while vowing to "continue to serve" Trump and his regime. So much the better, but as Republican Sen. Ron Johnson observed, Ingrassia's nomination "never should have got this far."

PARTING WORDS
"I am not a secret Nazi. Actually, if you read through my Reddit comments you can pretty much figure out where I stand on Nazism and anti-semitism and racism in general. I would say 'a life-long opponent.' ...
"In 2007, I was a machine gun section leader with kilo company, third battalion, eighth Marines, we were on the 22 MEU, and it was my third deployment. My previous two had been to Fallujah and and then Ramadi, 2006. And we went ashore in Split, Croatia, myself and a few of the other machine gun squad leaders, and we got very inebriated, and we did what Marines on liberty do and we decided to go get a tattoo. And we went to a tattoo parlor in Split, Croatia, and we chose a terrifying-looking skull and crossbones off the wall, because we were Marines, and, you know, skulls and crossbones are a pretty standard military thing.
And we got those tattoos, and then we all moved on with our lives. And I actually joined the Army, after that, where I had to go to MEPS, I got screened. Later on I got a security clearance and the full screen, where I went to work for the State Department as a contractor doing security for the ambassador to Afghanistan, 2018. And I've also just lived my entire life like a regular person with a skull and crossbones on their chest, by that I mean: taking my shirt off, performing Miley Cyrus songs in front of my extended family, and to my sister-in-law, and just taking my shirt off at the beach. ...
At no point in this entire experience of my life did anybody ever once say, 'hey, you're a Nazi.' Uh, it never came up. Until we got wind that in the opposition research somebody was shopping the idea that I was a secret Nazi with a hidden Nazi tattoo. And I can honestly say that if I was trying to hide it I've not been doing a very good job for the past 18 years. ... The fact that I've managed to go from communist to Nazi in the space of four days according to the people who are trying to, whatever, do this to me, I find to be quite a spectacular turn of events."
-- Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner, explaining to Pod Save America how he wound up with a large tattoo resembling a Nazi SS Totenkopf "death's head" symbol on the right side of his chest. Platner provided the video to the podcast in an attempt to get out ahead of a story based on opposition research. His former political director Genevieve McDonald, who resigned Friday because of Platner's past comments on Reddit, doesn't accept his explanation, telling the Portland Press Herald that "while he may not have known what his tattoo meant when he selected the image, it is not plausible he remained ignorant of its meaning all these years." In a subsequent statement, Platner said "I am already planning to get this removed." Vermont independent Sen. Bernie Sanders says he will continue to support Platner, whom he calls "an excellent candidate."
