'This Was Wrong': Democrats Decry US Military Murder of Civilians at Sea
Amid the grim tide of news this week came the rather minor headline that Donald Trump had renamed the US Institute of Peace in Washington, DC, the "Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace." Trump yesterday thanked Secretary of State Marco Rubio for the renaming the small nonprofit agency, which the regime gutted back in February, prompting the spectacle of the Institute's president being removed from the building by cops. "Boy, that is beautiful," Trump said upon seeing own name emblazoned on the Institute's headquarters. "It's a great honor."
What it is is the sickest of ironies. The self-proclaimed "President of Peace" and his preening incompetent "Secretary of War" Pete Hegseth are currently facing accusations of prosecutable war crimes and murder for their bloodthirsty campaign of military strikes on unarmed civilian boats in Latin American waters, a prelude to a threatened invasion of Venezuela.
To date, those pointless, lawless, and costly attacks have killed more than 83 people, none of whom posed a threat to the United States. Select members of Congress yesterday saw video footage of one of those attacks on civilians, in which the military carried out a brazenly unlawful follow-up strike on two survivors who survived the initial missile attack on their boat. The Washington Post reports:
"Rep. Jim Himes (Connecticut), the House Intelligence Committee’s top Democrat, described the footage as 'one of the most troubling things I've seen in my time in public service.' The two survivors, he said, were 'in clear distress' after their boat was 'destroyed.'
"'The video we saw today showed two shipwrecked individuals who had no means to move, much less pose an immediate threat, and yet they were killed by the United States military,' Himes said in a joint statement with Rep. Adam Smith (Washington), the House Armed Services Committee's top Democrat. 'Regardless of what one believes about the legal underpinnings of these operations, and we have been clear we believe they are highly questionable, this was wrong.'"
Some Republicans, like the loathsome Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton, are defending the murders at sea as "righteous" and "highly lawful and lethal." That's a disgusting lie – the military's own rules are as clear as day when it comes to killing defenseless people. Meanwhile, the Pentagon boastfully announced another civilian boat strike in the eastern Pacific yesterday, adding four men to this regime's body count. From Trump on down: lock them up.

Military Drones Narrowly Miss Zelenskyy's Plane
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may well have narrowly survived an assassination attempt this week. Irish news website The Journal reports that four large "military-style" quadcopter drones breached a no-fly zone near Dublin Airport on Monday night and headed toward the flight path of Zelenskyy's plane as it arrived for a diplomatic visit. The only thing that prevented its interception by the drones was the fact that Zelenskyy landed ahead of schedule. It's unclear where the drones came from or who was piloting them, but the "hybrid warfare" incident echoes recent drone scares across Europe blamed on Russian saboteurs.
Meanwhile in Miami, Donald Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner met with a Ukrainian representative at Witkoff's golf club in Hallandale Beach, Florida, following their fruitless five-hour meeting with Aspiring Tsar Vladimir Putin. French President Emmanuel Macron has reportedly warned Zelenskyy that the American negotiators are "playing games" and may "betray Ukraine on territory" that Russia hopes to gain. Macron hopes China may prove a more honest mediator.
Virginia Man Arrested in Jan. 6 Pipe Bomb Case
Nearly five years after a masked and hooded man was caught on a surveillance camera placing two pipe bombs near the US Capitol on the eve of Donald Trump's Jan. 6, 2021 coup attempt, the feds arrested a suspect. Brian Cole Jr., 30, of suburban Woodbridge, Virginia, will appear in court today to answer charges of transporting explosive materials across state lines and the attempted destruction of buildings with explosives. Those who know Cole describe him as quiet loner who faced bullying over his enthusiasm for "My Little Pony."
FBI director Kash Patel told reporters yesterday that no new information led to Cole's arrest, but rather another review of the available evidence, which included records on Cole's driving routes, cell phone location data, and purchase history. Patel's deputy, the conspiracy theorizing former podcaster Dan Bongino, claimed last year that the unexploded pipe bombs were an anti-Trump "inside job" and a "setup." The FBI has released no information on their suspect's possible motive.
