Epstein Survivors Denounce Melania Trump PR Stunt
With the world's attention focused on her husband's lawless and catastrophic war on Iran, Melania Trump took the opportunity today to air out some grievances and address rumors that are eating away at her peace of mind. She called a press conference at the White House, walked up to the podium, and stunned the assembled reporters with the following comments, which seemed to come totally out of the blue:
"The lies linking me with the disgraceful Jeffrey Epstein need to end today. The individuals lying about me are devoid of ethical standards, humility, and respect. ... I have never been friends with Epstein. Donald and I were invited to the same parties as Epstein from time to time, since overlapping in social circles in New York City and Palm Beach.
"To be clear, I never had a relationship with Epstein or his accomplice, [Ghislaine] Maxwell. My email reply to Maxwell cannot be categorized as anything more than casual correspondence. My polite reply to her email does not amount to anything more than a trival [sic] note."
As the Guardian reports, she appears to be referring here to a 2002 email she sent to Maxwell discussing a New York Magazine profile of Epstein, signed "love, Melania." The frequently reclusive first lady continued, seeking to refute various allegations that have come to her attention, some of which have not yet been made by any news organization:
"I am not Epstein's victim. Epstein did not introduce me to Donald Trump. I met my husband by chance at a New York City party in 1988. ...
"The first time I crossed paths with Epstein was in the year 2000 at an event Donald and I attended together. At the time, I had never met Epstein and had no knowledge of his criminal undertakings. Numerous fake images and statements about Epstein and me have been calculating [sic] on social media for years now. Be cautious about what you believe. These images and stories are completely false.
"I am not a witness or a name [sic] witness in connection with any of Epstein's crimes. My name has never appeared in court documents, depositions, victim statements, or FBI interviews surrounding the Epstein matter. I have never had any knowledge of Epstein abuse of his victims. I was never involved in any capacity. I was not a participant, was never on Epstein's plane, and never visited his private island.
"I have never been legally accused or convinced [sic] of a crime in connection with Epstein's sex trafficking, abuse of minors, and other repulsive behavior. The false smears about me from mean-spirited and politically motivated individuals and entities looking to cause damage to my good name, to gain financially, and to climb politically must stop. My attorneys and I have fought these unfound [sic] and baseless lies with success and will continue to maintain my sound reputation without hesitation. To date, several individuals and companies have been legally obligated to publicly apologize and retract their lies about me, such as Daily Beast, James Carville, and HarperCollins UK."
She concluded by positioning herself as a friend to Epstein's victims and calling for Congressional hearings "centered around the survivors." But a survivors group denounced Melania's comments, saying that they "have already shown extraordinary courage by coming forward, filing reports, and giving testimony. Asking more of them now is a deflection of responsibility, not justice."
CNN reports that Melania's press conference, which ended with her walking away from shouted questions, "sparked rumors all across the White House campus that she was trying to get ahead of something that most people must not know about." Amazingly, Donald Trump himself told MS NOW that he did not know his wife would be talking to the press from an official podium about the biggest scandal of his second term ahead of time. At a minimum, this suggests that there is no united front on the subject within the marriage.
Was she just driven to distraction by social media speculation? Or is another major story about to drop regarding Donald and Melania's relationship to Epstein? Either way, this will go down as one of the strangest White House press conferences in history – and by Trump regime standards, that's saying something.

Sebastian Gorka has kept a lower profile in Donald Trump's second term than he did the first time around, but as the New York Times reports, the cartoonish Hungarian fascist ally is making the most of his position on Trump's National Security Council. Specifically, he's spearheading a global campaign against imaginary "antifa and far-left terrorism" that targets "communists, Marxists, anarchists, anticapitalists and those with 'eco-extremist' and 'other self-identified antifascist ideologies.'" While Gorka's initiative ostensibly concerns foreign organizations, it will certainly be used to "expand the powers of the government to surveil, investigate and prosecute left-wing activists on American soil."
"They are trying to invent antifa as an international threat to tie it to groups and individuals in the United States," counterterrorism expert Tom Joscelyn tells the Times. "It suggests that the administration is further down the path of twisting the counterterrorism machinery of the US government to going after domestic political opponents than people realize."
