The World Meteorological Organization, a United Nations climate body, yesterday released a new report warning that human-caused climate change is on track to increase global temperatures by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius, the danger threshold established in the Paris Agreement, within two years. As the Washington Post reports, that's an unwelcome update to UN expert forecasts from just two years ago, which predicted that threshold wouldn't be reached for another decade. "It's pretty bleak," Canadian fire scientist Mike Flannigan tells the Los Angeles Times. "My fear is that [the coming years] will be even warmer than they suggest, and the impacts will continue to catch us by surprise and be more severe than we expect across the world. ... It's scary.
