Report: Boat Bombed By US Likely Carried Migrants, Not 'Narco Terrorists'

Congress has not authorized US military action against Venezuela, but the Trump regime is acting as though war has already been declared. Donald Trump and his lackeys continued to boast yesterday about the snuff video he shared online this week, which showed what the US government says were 11 members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua on a drug smuggling run.

Venezuelan officials claimed the video was a fake generated by AI, a subject Trump knows a little about. That's a little hard to believe. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth claims the government "knew exactly who was in that boat" and "exactly what they were doing." But a former senior law enforcement official with "years of direct experience in fighting drug cartels" tells the New York Times that, based on the unusually large number of people on the small craft, which would reduce the cargo space for drug smuggling, "it was more likely that the vessel was carrying migrants on a human smuggling run."

Secretary of State Marco Rubio says it was Trump who gave the order to blow up the boat instead of simply intercepting it. "And it'll happen again," Rubio told reporters in Mexico yesterday. "Maybe it's happening right now."

That's exactly what worries experts watching the rise of authoritarianism in the US. The Washington Post reports:
