Violence Disrupts Gaza Aid Deliveries

The United Nations says more than 3,800 aid trucks have entered Gaza since the ceasefire with Israel took effect on Sunday – "a massive increase compared with the volume of aid going in each day during the war," per the Washington Post. But security is still lacking, and gangs of organized looters have clashed with Hamas and police guarding the trucks. The New York Times reports that American and Egyptian security contractors will manage the Netzarim corridor crossing, which displaced Palestinians in Gaza's south must pass to return to whatever's left of their homes in the north. It isn't clear who's paying for the contractors, but "Israel hopes that the private security contractors will eventually form the nucleus of a larger international force, backed by Gulf states like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, that will run Gaza in the future." Meanwhile in the West Bank, hundreds of Palestinians are fleeing an Israeli assault that commenced as soon as the Gaza ceasefire took effect.
