THE BIG NEWS
Trump Flunkie Prosecutor Indicts New York AG Letitia James
Donald Trump's lawless campaign of revenge has landed on a new but familiar target: New York state Attorney General Letitia James, who led the successful civil fraud case against him before his return to the White House. As with some other officials targeted by the regime, the charges, approved by a Virginia grand jury, are mortgage fraud, and James faces up to 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine for each of two counts. Essentially, prosecutors say she ticked a box saying a second home would be her primary residence when it would in fact be a rental property. James "flatly and forcefully denies these charges," her lawyer Abbe Lowell says.
James responded to the charges yesterday in a video statement. "This is nothing more than a continuation of the president's desperate weaponization of our justice system," she said.
"He is forcing federal law enforcement agencies to do his bidding – all because I did my job as the New York state Attorney General. These charges are baseless, and the president's own public statements make clear that his only goal is political retribution at any cost. The president's actions are a grave violation of our constitutional order ...
"His decision to fire a United States Attorney who refused to bring charges against me, and replace them with someone who is blindly loyal not to the law, but to the president, is antithetical to the bedrock principles of our country. ...
"Today I am not fearful — I am fearless. And as my faith teaches me, no weapon formed against me shall prosper. We shall fight these baseless charges aggressively, and my office will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights."
Other Democrats reacted with horror. "This is what tyranny looks like," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said. Civil rights leader Al Sharpton, meanwhile, warned that if Trump "can indict the former FBI Director or the Attorney General of New York, what stops him from going further?"
Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, said James is "a champion for justice who fights relentlessly for the people," but that "Trump knows her only as an obstacle to his corruption." Mamdani went on: "No one should be surprised that Donald Trump is employing fascist tactics — prosecuting his opponents, weaponizing the federal government, and attacking the very fabric of our democracy." The stakes are clearer than ever.

Netanyahu's Cabinet Signs Off on 'Outline' of Gaza Ceasefire Plan
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office has approved the US ceasefire and hostage release plan for Gaza that Hamas has already agreed to, the Associated Press reports. Israeli strikes continued in the hours leading up to the cabinet vote, but the ceasefire, along with an Israeli military withdrawal, was supposed to begin immediately after it obtained Israeli government approval. Hostage and prisoner swaps are supposed to begin Monday, and border crossings are supposed to reopen. The US will send some 200 troops to Israel to monitor the ceasefire, and the United Nations is preparing to surge 170,000 metric tons of food and medical aid into Gaza.
Some measure of relief is coming to genocide survivors. "The sounds of war were not just noise. They were constant fear – every roar could become death in a second," Wiam al-Masri, a breastfeeding mother of a two-month-old boy in Khan Younis, tells Al Jazeera. Today, only hours into the truce, the difference is enormous. We can finally hear each other again.” Donald Trump found out this morning about that he did not win his coveted Nobel Peace Prize; he previously said that his loss would "be a big insult to our country." That's how many of the 98 Senate-confirmed appointees Donald Trump has selected in his second term who are Black, far fewer than Presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama, or George W. Bush. At the same time, the New York Times reports, Trump has systematically fired Black government leaders and replaced them with white men, including Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Charles Brown, Jr., Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden, National Labor Relations Board member Gwynne Wilcox and more. One federal workers' advocate calls Trump's moves "a resegregation of the work force, and an attack on the Black middle class."

PARTING WORDS
"Somebody showed me a TikTok video of a pregnant woman at eight months pregnant – she is an associate professor at the Columbia Medical School – and she is saying 'F Trump' and gobbling Tylenol with her baby in her placenta. And, uh, the level of Trump Derangement Syndrome has now left political landscapes and is now in the realm of pathology."
-- Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., trying to impress Donald Trump with his knowledge of medicine and the human anatomy at a cabinet meeting yesterday. In what's almost certainly the video Kennedy misrepresents, a visibly pregnant woman takes a standard dose of Tylenol (which Kennedy and Trump falsely claim will give her baby autism) and doesn't mention Trump at all. What's more, as HuffPost notes, fetuses don't develop in the placenta, but rather the uterus.
