Israeli Opposition Brands Netanyahu 'Unfit' After Report Shows He Did Nothing to Stop Oct. 7 Attack
Liberal Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported yesterday that in late September 2023, not long before the Oct. 7 Hamas attack that led to the overwhelming Israeli assault on Gaza and subsequent genocide, far-right Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received a personal warning from the United Arab Emirates that such a surprise attack was in the works. The warning reportedly came directly in a phone call from UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
"Netanyahu did nothing," the paper reports, describing him as reacting to the dire warning "with relative calm." The prime minister's office is calling the report an "absolute lie." All the same, his office said, "If there was any relevant information, it was passed through intelligence channels between the two countries."
Netanyahu is up for re-election in late October, and it's not at all clear that he will win. As the New York Times reports, four leaders of Israeli opposition parties issued a joint statement yesterday calling for an independent commission to investigative the Hamas attack and its aftermath. "The public in Israel deserves to know what happened before, during and after the Oct. 7 massacre," the opposition leaders wrote. "Netanyahu and his partners in the Oct. 7 government are unfit to continue in office."
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom's Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband formally accused Israel yesterday of conducting an "ethnic cleansing" in Palestine and announced a ban on imports from the occupied West Bank.
And Netanyahu himself is due to make a brief 24-hour stop in New York City this month to attend the United Nations. Expect protests.

Leftist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has endured a steady drumbeat of bigoted invective suggesting a Muslim like him shouldn't attend the city's memorial honoring victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. But yesterday Mamdani turned that media narrative on its head, releasing 170,000 pages of records showing that it was white Republicans including former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and George W. Bush's EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman who dishonored both the victims and survivors of the attacks by covering up the true dangers of the polluted air around ground zero.
"People got sick because the leaders they trusted lied and told them they were safe to breathe in toxic air," Mamdani said at a City Hall press conference, per the New York Times. "Everyone knew. And now it's very clear that the city knew as well," said comedian and 9/11 victims' advocate Jon Stewart, who joined Mamdani, per the City Reporter.
Meanwhile, the felonious dotard Donald Trump, who will be skipping NYC's 9/11 memorial this year, made up a story about "big, strong" firemen carrying him to safety near ground zero and complained that a revered rescuer on the ground was is "more famous than me. I don't like it."
