FBI Raids John Bolton's House - The Friday AM Quickie 8/22/25

In a cautionary tale from Connecticut, firefighters last weekend freed a 40-year-old man who got stuck headfirst in the middle of a tube slide on an elementary school playground. He was said to be in "in extreme discomfort" during the ordeal. So just think twice, okay? I'm out, Whitney's back Monday. Peace! - Corey

THE BIG NEWS

Breaking: FBI Raids Home of Former White House Adviser John Bolton in Purge of Trump's 'Deep State' Enemies

Donald Trump managed to avoid a prison sentence when he was charged with mishandling classified documents after his first term. His former foreign policy adviser-turned-critic, John Bolton, may not be so lucky. The Bulwark and the New York Post report that FBI agents raided Bolton's Bethesda, Maryland home this morning on the orders of Trump's FBI director, Kash Patel, who dubbed Bolton a member of the enemy "Deep State" in his 2023 book, "Government Gangsters" (not to be confused with his 2022 children's book, "The Plot Against the King.") Patel cryptically referenced the Bolton raid in a social media post, writing "NO ONE is above the law... FBI agents on a mission."

According to the Associated Press, Bolton has not been arrested or criminally charged. More on this next week.

Minnesota Democrats Pull Endorsement of Leftist Hopeful Omar Fateh

In a move the Minnesota Star Tribune calls "unprecedented," the state's Democratic Farmer-Labor Party revoked its endorsement of Minneapolis mayoral candidate Omar Fateh, a democratic socialist challenging incumbent Mayor Jacob Frey. The DFL's rules committee made the decision, citing "substantial failures in the convention’s voting process" that led to the endorsement in July. Fateh, the first Muslim to serve in the state senate, has been called "the Minnesota Mamdani" for his leftist positions. Fateh co-campaign manager Graham Falkner says "28 mostly out-state, establishment Democrats, including many Frey donors and supporters, met privately and voted to overturn the will of Minneapolis residents." He continues:

"'Our campaign sees this for what it is: disenfranchisement of thousands of Minneapolis caucus-goers and the delegates who represented all of us on convention day. The establishment is threatened by our message. They are scared of a politics that really stands up to corporate interests and with our working class neighbors,' Faulkner said in a statement.
"He said the revoked endorsement will not slow Fateh’s campaign: 'We're going to win.'"

Fresh Indictments of Eric Adams' Inner Circle Detail Corruption of NYC City Hall

Manhattan prosecutors yesterday unsealed corruption indictments of the chief adviser to New York City Mayor-Cop Eric Adams, Ingrid Lewis-Martin; her son, and five other Adams associates. "If you were willing to pay, Ms. Lewis-Martin was open for business," assistant DA Guy Tardanico said at a hearing yesterday, per the New York Times. In one instance, she took a $50,000 bribe from a Queens karaoke bar owner who needed red tape cleared up; in another, she killed a bike lane project on a dangerous street in Brooklyn to please real estate interests who showered her with gifts including clothing from Bloomingdale's. "While New Yorkers struggle to afford the most expensive city in America, Eric Adams and his administration are too busy tripping over corruption charges to come to their defense," Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani says.

In a separate story, the Times says the attempted bribe of a reporter this week by Adams fundraiser Winnie Greco was not the first such incident, and that Adams supporters handed out cash envelopes to Chinese-language journalists at three separate events in July. Now you tell us! Guess those flimsy anti-Mamdani stories were more important at the time.

PARTING WORDS

"Right now, the NLRB is the only federal body that investigates unfair labor practices, certifies unions, and compels bargaining. If it's defunct, there is no backup system. That means workers fired for union activity? No remedy. Employers refusing to bargain? No consequences. Organizing elections? Suspended indefinitely."

-- Labor attorney Benjamin Dictor, responding to a Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decision this week in favor of Nazi-saluting oligarch Elon Musk's challenge to the constitutionality of the National Labor Relations Board. The ruling by the notoriously rightwing court opens labor board members to firing by the White House. The NLRB is expected to appeal the decision, which Vermont independent Sen. Bernie Sanders calls "disastrous."
