Minnesota Erupts in Protest and Mourning After ICE Killing
Given an limitless mandate by Donald Trump to brutalize and intimidate the public, and with federal agents' aggressive track record toward both immigrants and US citizens alike, something like what happened yesterday in Minneapolis was almost inevitable. If you haven't yet seen the horrifying videos, from multiple angles: an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shot and killed a woman as she attempted to slowly drive away from a small group of agents swarming her SUV.
According to the Associated Press, the cold-blooded shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Macklin Goodtried, a US citizen, was "at least the fifth death to result from the aggressive US immigration crackdown the Trump [regime] launched last year." And per the New York Times, it was the ninth ICE shooting since September.
Renee Good was the mother of a 6-year-old, who already lost his father in 2023. Now the boy has lost his mother to the MAGA Gestapo. "Renee was one of the kindest people I've ever known," her mother told the Minnesota Star-Tribune. Jaylani Hussein, the executive director of CAIR-MN, said at a vigil last night that Good "died because she loved her neighbors." Thousands attended that vigil for Good last night. Multiple protests are planned today.
The regime has its own story. At a press conference in Minneapolis, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Good was shot while committing "an act of domestic terrorism." The video evidence shows nothing like that – rather, it shows what one former Obama administration official calls "an execution." Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey calls the regime's story "bullshit" and is demanding ICE to "get the fuck out of Minneapolis."
Democratic Rep. Robin Kelly of Illinois plans to seek Noem's impeachment for "obstruction of justice, violation of public trust and self-dealing." Other Democratic politicians are demanding an investigation. Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz called on the federal government to withdraw from his state, saying, "To Donald Trump and Kristi Noem, you've done enough."
