Another One: Democratic Socialist Melat Kiros Wins Primary to Rep Denver 

Twenty-nine-year-old Melat Kiros beat veteran incumbent Diana DeGette by a hefty margin last night, marking another win for the left and demonstrating again that socialism is popular beyond NYC property lines, local NBC affiliate 9News and the AP reported. Kiros was up by almost six points when the race for Colorado’s 1st Congressional District was called; early this morning the AP had tallied 93 percent of votes to show Kiros with 51.3 percent compared to DeGette’s 41.7 percent. 

“One year ago a lot of experienced people told us this wasn’t possible. They said you can’t win without corporate PAC money. They said the establishment was too powerful, you can’t beat a 30-year incumbent,” Kiros told supporters in her acceptance speech last night. “You are the proof that the power of organized people beats the power of organized money.”

She also thanked DeGette for her work: “I am grateful for her service, and her fight for reproductive freedom,” Kiros said. “She helped build the community that welcomed my family. I will never forget that.” 

DeGette made no statement or speech last night. News outlets reported that observers expect Kiros to win in November and join Congress in January.

High Priests Bless More Anti-Trans Bigotry, Birthright Survives by One Vote

The unelected lawyers who set policy for Americans, who have their jobs for life, and who are in the process of building an army to protect themselves, issued pro-bigotry, anti-democracy decisions yesterday and a single good one that was way too close for comfort. Here’s what they decided we have to live with, according to the AP, NBC News, and the NYT. 

  • States Can Bar Trans Athletes from Girls and Women’s Sports Teams “Justices” voted 6-3 on this one, with alcoholic frat boy Brett Kavanaugh writing that laws stopping trans schoolgirls from playing volleyball with their friends don’t violate the Constitution. It’s the latest anti-trans ruling that the high clerics handed down and should be condemned at every chance because trans rights are human rights, trans women are women, and trans men are men. 
  • Billionaire Donors Get Even More Power Over Elections The alcoholic frat boy who shouldn’t have his job wrote another egregious opinion for a 6-3 decision that further erased campaign finance rules by blessing coordinated spending between political parties and candidates. Per Politico: 
The ruling strengthens the parties themselves, allowing them to directly support their preferred candidates in a way that could empower their roles in the political ecosystem — and potentially weaken the influence of super PACs. Party committees on both sides have been preparing for the possibility for months and the decision is likely to have an immediate impact on campaign spending ahead of the November midterms.
Previously, coordinated spending between candidates and party committees, such as the NRCC or the DCCC, was capped, with the specific amounts depending on the size of the district or state. Those limits no longer apply.
That significantly alters the campaign finance landscape because parties can accept far larger donations than individual candidates — $44,300 per year for national party committees compared with $3,500 per cycle for candidates. Removing the limit on coordinated spending effectively gives candidates the ability to control a far greater sum of money that is being spent on their race.
  • Birthright Citizenship Survives by Single Vote If you were born in America, you’re an American. That’s what the Constitution says in its 14th Amendment. The high priests decided they agreed with that foundational document and struck down Trump’s executive order that had sought to prevent the children of undocumented immigrants and temporary foreign residents from becoming US citizens. But it was a close call. Clarence Thomas, Neil M. Gorsuch and Samuel A. Alito Jr. dissented in the case. Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh joined the court’s majority to strike down the executive order, but said he “based his decision on a federal law, not on the Constitution.”

In conclusion: Democrats must impeach Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Thomas; expand the court; or both. I’m sick of these assholes and I bet you are too.

Oman Proposes Fee for Strait of Hormuz

Under the plan, Oman and Iran would collect payment for using the waterway, a completely unforced consequence of Trump’s idiotic war. In the parlance of the New York Times: “If enacted, the plans would be a significant change from the prewar status in the strategic waterway, underscoring how the American-Israeli decision to attack Iran on Feb. 28 has changed the Middle East in far-reaching and unanticipated ways,” which, sure, we can say it that way if you want.

  • Trump Building Ballroom With Secret $500 Million No-Bid Contract to Clark Construction The incessantly corrupt regime routed the contract through the Executive Residence office, which usually handles “routine repairs, entertainment expenses, and the purchase of furniture, art and other items for the executive mansion,” presumably so that it wouldn’t have to run a competitive selection process. Oh also, Trump is building a new, unannounced helipad for the White House. via the Washington Post.   
  • Lawmaker Who Voted To Strip Americans of Healthcare Takes Four Months Off to Address His Depression Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-NJ) returned to Washington DC yesterday to tell people he was gone for so long without word of where he was or when he would be back because he’s a “private person by nature” and was struggling with depression; Kean voted to cut $1 trillion in federal funding from Medicaid, which has resulted in millions of people getting kicked off of health care. Must be nice to have your treatment for a major illness funded by the rest of us, while we just have to carry on, regardless of our mental state. via the AP. 
  • Undocumented Immigrants Under Attack in South Africa, Too Anti-immigrant groups held mass protests across the country following weeks of violence against foreign nationals. Four have been killed and “tens of thousands" have fled for their lives. via the Guardian.
