Regime Punishes Concerned FEMA Workers as Dangerous Walls of Dust Sweep Southwest
It's no secret that climate change caused by fossil fuels pollution has made disasters more common in recent years. Yesterday Whitney wrote about the evacuation of thousands of people due to wildfires tearing through Western states. Another shocking sign of the catastrophically warming planet manifested this week in Arizona – a massive dust storm powered by monsoon winds called a haboob.
A "towering" wall of dust hundreds of feet high swept across Phoenix and nearby cities, knocking out power to tens of thousands of people, delaying over 100 flights at the airport, making roads impassable, felling trees, and scaring the living daylights out of people, who saw their cities transformed into "pretty much like Arrakis from Dune."
The US press coverage of the haboob uniformly ignored the elephant in the room – climate change – but the Guardian at least acknowledges that the "climate crisis increases the odds of both severe drought and heavier storms that could set the stage for more intense dust storms in the future." Monday's Arizona haboob came just days after another major dust storm swept through the Burning Man celebration in Nevada's Black Rock desert, with 50-mph winds flipping tents, destroying art installations, and reducing visibility to less than arm's length.
Meanwhile, the Trump regime's war on climate science and emergency response continues apace. The Federal Emergency Management Agency yesterday suspended dozens of workers who signed an open letter to Congress on Monday warning that the incompetence and mismanagement of Trump's lackeys risks another disaster like Hurricane Katrina, in which the bungled federal response caused more deaths than the extreme weather event itself. The suspended FEMA workers include at least two who responded to the deadly floods in Central Texas last month.
"The fact that 180 people signed on to the letter, with a supermajority of them still working in the building, and dozens of those people wanted to attach their real names, signifies the severity of the problem," former FEMA press secretary Jeremy Edwards tells the Washington Post. "They are that scared of us being so inadequately unprepared. It speaks a lot to the situation right now."

Social Security Whistleblower Warns DOGE Mishandled Data
The former chief data officer at the Social Security Administration, Charles Borges, has turned whistleblower, and he has some bad news for basically everyone in the US. Nazi-saluting oligarch Elon Musk's dubious DOGE service put the private data of 300 million Americans at risk by uploading it to a non-governmental cloud computing service, Borges claims. As the New York Times reports, the compromised "database contains records of all Social Security numbers issued by the federal government" and "includes individuals' full names, addresses and birth dates, among other details that could be used to steal their identities."
Lawyers at the Government Accountability Project filed Borges's whistleblower complaint yesterday with Congress and the Office of Special Counsel. Borges says DOGE's actions may have "violated multiple federal statues" on data protection. And yes: Edward "Big Balls" Coristine, the notorious 19-year-old DOGE hacker and recent purported victim of a beatdown by two 15-year-olds, was involved in the dodgy cloud project.
'Do Not Come': Priztker Pushes Back on Trump Threat to Invade Chicago
With Chicago and Baltimore next in the regime's sights for a Washington, DC-style occupation by National Guard troops answering to Donald Trump, the Democratic governors of Illinois and Maryland are working to prevent a jackbooted MAGA takeover. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker responded bluntly to Trump's threats, saying simply, "do not come to Chicago." But the Chicago Trubune reports that "Pritzker and other officials acknowledged there are few, if any, steps the city or state could take to head off a deployment if the president were to choose that route." While Trump says "I'm not a dictator," he also said yesterday that living in the White House gives him "the right to do anything I want to do." Must be nice... In DC, Trump wants to bring back the death penalty as his prolonged military occupation leaves residents traumatized.
Despite a few bootlicking MAGA freaks, most ordinary people living Chicago want no part of Trump's assault on democracy. "This is how it starts," Alexis Figueroa, a Chicago art gallery owner tells the Washington Post. "You do it in one city, they don't complain enough, you do it in another, they don't complain enough, you do it in the whole country — and then you do whatever the hell you want."
