DNC Hid Key Autopsy Chapter
The Democratic National Committee published an incomplete version of its autopsy on 2024, according to the man who wrote it, the NYT reported. The version the Democratic National Committee published in May failed to include a chapter called “What Happened in 2024,” even though author Paul Rivera told the Times he had personally printed it out and given it to DNC chair Ken Martin four months earlier. Martin said he never got the chapter and would have published it if he had. The NYT could not independently verify either person’s account; the printed copy is missing and emails that mentioned the chapter have been deleted as part of routine party email maintenance.
The chapter, which can be read here, discussed “politically delicate subjects” that the published draft did not. Per the Times:
It questioned Mr. Biden’s decision to seek re-election in the first place: “Is there a single point of failure for 2024? Perhaps it is a decision of the President to seek re-election instead of passing the torch.”
It analyzed the party’s loss of support among Hispanic, Black, Asian American and Native American voters, which had been mostly missing from the public draft.
And it pointedly raised the concern that most senior Democratic strategists in 2024 were “financially secure” and thus removed from the challenges facing many Americans. “It is therefore possible the people ‘in the room’ at the highest levels of 2024 decision making misunderstood the mood and practicalities facing everyday America,” the report read.
A Truthout summary of the chapter highlighted this relevant passage:
“An emerging critique of Democratic decision-making,” the chapter states, “is there are too many people who have become generationally wealthy off politics and drive too much of the decision-making within the ecosystem. This is deeply frustrating to many… who want to try a different set of politics but keep banging their heads up against a system proven to be inflexible and self-enriching.”
As the Guardian reported, news of the missing chapter comes as voters decide between corporate Democratic candidates and the popular progressives who they are smearing and actively trying to suppress, such as today's race in Michigan between Haley Stevens and Abdul El-Sayed. The Guardian notes that the Democratic Party is heading into the midterms with a cash deficit of $2 million. The Republicans, meanwhile, have more than $128 million.
