THE BIG NEWS

'Total Fascist' Trump Dials Up the Bloodlust on Blue-State Hate Speech Tour

In lie-filled hate rallies and menacing media appearances over the weekend, Donald Trump reminded the world who he really is: a maniacal fascist who revels in goading his followers to do violence against his enemies. With general election voting already underway, the Republican wannabe dictator took his toxic grievance campaign to solidly Democratic states to demonstrate that no one across the country will be safe from paramilitary terror should he return to power.

In Aurora, Colorado, on Friday, he repeated racist lies about Venezuelan gangs taking over parts of the city to justify a promised xenophobic purge. He vowed to send "elite squads" of federal agents to "hunt down, arrest, and deport" foreign-born Americans accused of belonging to gangs. The "task of deporting every single alien immigrant" will begin on his first day in office, Trump said. He pledged to invoke the 1798 Alien Enemies Act, suggesting his mass deportation campaign may be accompanied by declarations of war against other countries. Calling Colorado an "occupied state," he promised to "rescue every town like Aurora that has been invaded and conquered" and suggested he wouldn't wait until being inaugurated to seize power, saying, "November 5, 2024, will be liberation day in America."

"The enemy from within," Trump mused. "All the scum that we have to deal with that hate our country. That's a bigger enemy than China and Russia."

The slavering crowd cheered and booed at their dear leader's command. Immigrant residents of Aurora now live in fear of violent threats from Trump supporters, Reuters reports. Racist vigilantes have already been harrassing Venezeuelans there, according to Westword.

In Coachella, California, on Saturday, Trump repeated much the same rhetoric he used in Aurora, and called for a heckler to get "the hell knocked out of her." The rabid crowd "grew especially animated when Trump pointed out the 'fake news' watching from the press pen, jumping up on their seats to boo and give thumbs down in what has become a Trump rally tradition," the Washington Post reports. Rallygoers shouted "she's a ho!" when Trump mentioned his Democratic rival Kamala Harris.

And in a Fox News interview yesterday, Trump repeated his dark fantasies about "the enemy from within," suggesting any "radical left lunatics" on the streets on Election Day should "be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military."

"The thing that's tougher to handle are these lunatics that we have inside, like Adam Schiff," Trump added, referring to the California Democratic Congressman who led his first impeachment trial. "I call him the enemy from within." He also calls Schiff, who is Jewish, "shifty." The echoes of Nazi propaganda could scarcely be more clear.

Trump's authoritarian program "is about criminalizing dissent," historian Ruth Ben-Ghiat warns. "There is a method to his madness in that he has taken people on a journey of indoctrination."

"Taken with his vow to be a dictator on 'day one,' calls for the 'termination' of the Constitution, and plans to surround himself with sycophants who will give him unchecked, unprecedented power if he returns to office, this should alarm every American who cares about their freedom and security," Harris campaign spokesman Ian Sams says.

Retired Gen. Mark Milley, former chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, puts it more bluntly.

"He's a total fascist," Milley told the journalist Bob Woodward. "No one has ever been as dangerous to this country as Donald Trump." You may recall that Trump called for Milley to be executed last year. Milley disclosed to Woodward that he subsequently received a barrage of death threats, leading him to install bulletproof glass and blast-proof curtains at his home.

Unfortunately, the most vulnerable targets of Trump's threats can't afford to bunkerize their homes. We need to look out for one another.

US Deploys 100 Troops to Israel as Netanyahu Weighs Plan to Starve Gaza

For the first time since last October's Hamas attack and Israel's subsequent campaign of slaugter in Gaza, the United States is dispatching a significant number of troops to Israel. Despite concerns from Joint Chiefs of Staff chair Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr. that Israel is "increasingly aggressive" towards its neighbor, Lebanon, because its leaders know that American forces will back them up, President Joe Biden ordered the deployment yesterday to, in his words, "defend Israel." The deployment consists of one of the US Army's seven Terminal High Altitude Area Defense systems, or THAADs, and the crew required to operate it; the THAAD is designed to shoot down ballistic missiles like those Iran launched at Israel two weeks ago in retaliation for apparent Israeli attacks on Iranian soil. Meanwhile, the Associated Press reports that far-right Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering a starvation plan for northern Gaza that "could trap without food or water hundreds of thousands of Palestinians." Human rights groups say the plan "flies in the face of international law." Also yesterday, the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon said "two Israeli tanks destroyed a gate and forcibly entered" a UN base before shelling it last week; Israel says the tanks did so "accidentally."

That's how many jobs Boeing plans to cut in the coming months, accounting for 10 percent of its workforce, the company announced on Friday. "Rather than resolve the [five-week-old machinists] strike and focus the company's resources on rebuilding the trust of regulators and customers, Boeing leadership has decided to harm every aspect of the company," says Ray Goforth, director of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, the union representing white-collar engineers at the company. "This doesn't inspire confidence that there’s an actual plan to save Boeing from its self-inflicted wounds."
