Democratic Leaders Are Working on a Plan to Counter Expected GOP Election Interference
Just about every political factor favors Democrats in the November midterm elections – barring Republican cheating. Politico reports that "Senate Democrats are war-gaming legal maneuvers and messaging strategies to thwart" election interference by Donald Trump's MAGA thugs as well as "foreign actors." A drill last week considered "a range of extreme scenarios — from federal agents at polling locations, to ballot seizures in key battlegrounds, to foreign interference operations — that they fear could become reality pre- and post-Election Day." The story continues:
"One of the scenarios hypothesized a foreign influence operation involving AI-generated deepfakes and a federal crackdown on media attempting to report on the disinformation campaign.
"Another tracked how claims of systemic election fraud could prompt armed citizens to patrol voting sites and ballot drop boxes — and lead Trump to send federal agents to polling locations to 'protect the election.'"
Disturbing stuff. The game-planned responses include legal injunctions, lawsuits, and anti-misinformation communication strategies. Democratic attorneys general, secretaries of state, and governors have been holding similar planning sessions. Of course, ordinary people will always have the most important part to play when it comes to defending democracy.
Meanwhile in Ohio, MS Now reports that FBI agents yesterday "raided the Cleveland offices of the Ohio Organizing Collaborative, a pro-democracy organization that helps register voters in that state." Agents showed up at the homes of group leaders and staff members across the state, sometimes carrying subpoenas and seizing electronic devices. Even canvassing volunteers were approached and pressed for information, sometimes without warrants. Many "are concerned this new effort in Ohio is part of the Trump administration's efforts to sow doubt and distrust in voting integrity in key swing states ahead of the midterm elections." You probably know Elon Musk as the Nazi-saluting oligarch who is so busy gobbling ketamine, paying other people to play video games, and condemning thousands to die by gutting US aid programs for the Trump regime that he has no time for his "legion" of offspring. Maybe this week you saw Musk using his social media propaganda platform, X, to incite racist pogroms against innocent migrant families in Belfast, Northern Ireland. But Wall Street takes a different view of this despicable human being.
Yesterday Musk's space privatization company, SpaceX, finalized its initial public offering, a dodgy deal that wildly overvalues the government contractor at $1.77 trillion in a deal that makes Musk, at least on paper, the world's first trillionaire. Although the IPO values tthe company at $135 per share, the Guardian reports that investment research group Morningstar reckons that SpaceX is worth only $63 a share. "It really does feel very much a 'don't look at the man behind the curtain' situation,” skeptical investor Jim Chanos tells the New York Times. In short, at the same time a corrupted democracy has elevated a criminal dotard to head the crumbling American empire, capitalism has elevated a career con man to the pinnacle of wealth, while greedy hangers-on clamber over one another to ride his coattails. It's just wild how none of these bandwagon investors care that SpaceX rockets keep exploding.

Despite a judge's ruling this year that the numbers do not constitute any kind of threat, the White House claims the grass etchings are an act of "political violence," and federal authorities are investigating.
