THE BIG NEWS
Trump and Epstein Shared a Girlfriend, Who May Have Been a Trafficking Victim
This week's disclosure by the House Oversight Committee of elite serial sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein's 50th birthday book, with cryptic and complimentary notes from friends – including Donald Trump – skeeved out a lot of people with its winking tone toward sex abuse. Trump's personal note to Epstein, including a lewd line drawing and his signature, captured most of the attention. Despite all the other evidence putting him in Epstein's circle, Trump claims the drawing is a fake, though handwriting experts beg to differ.
But another entry in the book, a photo showing an oversized check signed "DJ Trump" and made out to Epstein for $22,500" for a "fully depreciated" woman, captured the New York Times' attention. As you can see, the photo does raise a few questions:

The Times reports that a woman shown in the photo with the check "was a European socialite then in her 20s" who had "briefly dated" both Epstein and Trump. The Times declined to name the woman because she "may have been" one of Epstein's sex trafficking victims. Oh? The man who submitted the check photo to Epstein's book, Florida real estate developer Joel Pashcow, was also a Mar-a-Lago member.
"I don't comment on something that's a dead issue," Trump told NBC News yesterday. "It's a dead issue."
Meanwhile, special elections in Virginia and Arizona could supply House Democrats with enough votes pass the bipartisan resolution to force the Justice Department to release all of its files on Epstein, even without more Republican support. It's all rather noisy for a dead issue, no?

Furious Crowds in Nepal Burn Parliament and Supreme Court; Prime Minister Resigns; 22 Dead
In recent weeks, social media hashtags like #nepopbabies and #nepokids have been trending in Nepal, showing the lavish lifestyles of the children of the elite, and contrasting them with the grueling existence of the many poor people in that country. In response, the government banned some of the most popular social media sites last week, including WhatsApp and Instagram. That decision backfired, big time. Youth-led protests overtook the capital, Kathmandu. The authorities fired back with live rounds, killing at least 22 people, tear gas and water cannons.
Amid the chaos, protesters set fire to Parliament, the Supreme Court, police stations, media offices, and the homes of politicians. The Communist Prime Minister, K.P. Sharma Oli, announced his resignation yesterday. Some protesters hope Kathmandu's young mayor, Balendra Shah, a former rapper who has backed the protests, will take power. Last night, Nepals' army threatened to intervene. We'll be sure to keep an eye on this as it develops.

46 percent
That's the share of likely New York City voters who would cast their ballot for Democratic mayoral nominee Zohram Mamdani, according to a New York Times poll – nearly double the share who'd vote for the runner-up, Andrew Cuomo, who claimed only 24 percent of the electorate. Meanwhile, Curtis Silwa (15 percent) and incumbent Eric Adams (9 percent) still claim they plan to stay in the race, further boosting Mamdani's chances.
