Rule of Law in America Hangs on Fate of Kilmar Abrego Garcia
On television, Donald Trump and his propagandists call Kilmar Abrego Garcia a gang member who deserves to rot in an El Salvadoran prison. In court, Trump's lawyers admit that Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident, committed no crime and was wrongly deported in March in violation of a court order. The Supreme Court has ordered Trump to "facilitate" his return to the US. Trump has refused. "I don't think there's any question we're in a separation of powers crisis," Georgetown University law professor Stephen Vladeck tells the Washington Post. That's a lawerly way of saying that Trump is acting like a dictator.
This week Abrego Garcia's US Senator, Democrat Chris Van Hollen, flew to El Salvador in an attempt to meet his constituent and ensure that he is OK. Trump's Salvadoran partner in crime, President Nayib Bukele, at first denied Van Hollen access to Abrego Garcia. Then for some reason he changed his mind and allowed Van Hollen yesterday to sit with his constituent and pass along a message of love from his wife, who hasn't heard from him in over a month. In characteristically twisted fashion, the crypto-shilling dictator reportedly had an aide place two glasses with salted rims on the table as Van Hollen sat with Abrego Garcia, then snap a photo, which Bukele used to lie online that "Abrego Garcia, miraculously risen from the 'death camps' & 'torture,'" was "now sipping margaritas with Sen. Van Hollen in the tropical paradise of El Salvador!"
Clearly, the people building Trump's gulag are, like the man himself, profoundly sick in the head. It remains to be seen whether the legal system alone has the power to stop them before their fast-growing concentration camps for innocent migrant families become death camps. Trump's own intelligence agencies know that there is no migrant "invasion" of America – it's a lie in the service of his larger agenda, which is to punish anyone who opposes his bid for absolute power. "Homegrowns are next," Trump told Bukele during his Oval Office visit, signaling his desire to send US citizens to foreign torture prisons for the crime of dissent – or for failing to meet some racial purity test. This week ICE cops detained US-born citizen Juan Carlos Lopez-Gomez in Florida and charged him with entering the state as an "unauthorized alien." He wasn't released until a crowd of protesters showed up outside the jail.
Trump has gone too far even for some conservatives. The Reagan-appointed federal appeals court Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III yesterday wrote in a ruling on behalf of his colleagues that Trump's refusal to free Abrego Garcia despite court orders was a "shocking" threat to the rule of law that stands to "diminish" both the judiciary and the executive branch, which he wrote "will lose much from a public perception of its lawlessness." The Supreme Court also announced yesterday that it will review Trump's attempt to nullify the constitutional right to birthright citizenship. America's mad king may yet be stopped from "transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences." Pray that Abrego Garcia gets home soon.

DOGE Opens a Door for Russian Hackers
Nazi-saluting oligarch Elon Musk's outlaw DOGE squad has been wreaking havoc across the federal government, slashing healthcare programs, pilfering data from Social Security, and even mucking up the weather forecast. Some have likened DOGE to a cyberattack on the US government. Now NPR reports that the truth may be even worse. After DOGE forced its way into the National Labor Relations Board's systems, unknown Russian internet users soon followed, downloading gigabytes of sensitive data and taking steps to cover their tracks. The news comes thanks to a whistleblower in the IT department, Daniel Berulis, who says he doesn't know what the Russians' end goal was, but the overall picture is "scary." Former NLRB general counsel Richard Griffin says the DOGE breach "shocks the conscience" and may constitute a Privacy Act violation. The hack also raises the prospect that, wittingly or unwittingly, DOGE is opening a back door into US government systems for foreign adversaries. Great work, kids!
Trump Lackey Tells IRS to Lay Off Audit of MyPillow Guy
Blustering far-right crackpot business owner Mike Lindell, better known as the MyPillow guy, was one of the biggest boosters of Donald Trump's Jan. 6, 2021 coup attempt and the lie that Trump really beat President Joe Biden. He's still a close Trump ally and met with him at the White House earlier this year. And he has tried to call in favors. The New York Times and the Washington Post report that after Lindell complained about his multiple Internal Revenue Service audits, a Trump political appointee at the Treasury Department, David Eisner, wrote to a top IRS official that Lindell, "a high-profile friend of the President," was "concerned that he may have been inappropriately targeted." In other words: back off. The IRS referred the complaint to the agency's inspector general. Per the Post, "Lindell also faces a separate proceeding with the IRS over losses he wishes to claim after $10 million of a substance he claimed would cure covid-19 expired while sitting in a Minnesota warehouse." Sad!
