MAGA World Daydreams About Dictatorship
There's another Republican presidential primary debate tonight, sure to be as pointless as the last three in this cursed election cycle, with even fewer viewers. While the four remaining also-rans snipe at each other in Alabama, the likely nominee and wannabe dictator, Donald Trump, will be raising money in Florida. His flunkies, meanwhile, are publicly plotting revenge on their many, many enemies.
Former Trump counterterrorism adviser Kash Patel, a dangerous lunatic who may well be in line for CIA director in a second Trump administration, yesterday told Steve "Acid Bath" Bannon in an interview that the U.S. government will begin to exert totalitarian control by abusing the court system. Per the New York Times:
"We will go out and find the conspirators, not just in government but in the media," Mr. Patel said. "Yes, we're going to come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens, who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections — we're going to come after you. Whether it's criminally or civilly, we'll figure that out.' He added: "We're actually going to use the Constitution to prosecute them for crimes they said we have always been guilty of but never have.'"
Trump, you may recall, currently faces 91 felony charges in four separate criminal cases, to say nothing of the civil court cases. Whether he's convicted or not, it's worth noting that the former crook-in-chief is guilty of far more than he'll ever be charged with. But inshallah he will be convicted. In a court filing yesterday, Justice Department Special Counsel Jack Smith's team said they will introduce evidence of Trump's violent insurrectionist motive, intent, and actions leading up to his Jan. 6, 2021 coup attempt, including "sen[ding] supporters, including groups like the Proud Boys, whom he knew were angry, and whom he now calls 'patriots,' to the Capitol to achieve [his] criminal objective." Portions of the filing are redacted, but some of the evidence comes from Trump's own words.
It seems everyone with any sense wants to stop Trump's fascist movement from taking power again, but does America's opposition have its act together any more than the hapless GOP wannabes in Alabama? Some Democratic donors have started giving to Trump's nominal Republican rivals out of desperation. Former Wymong Rep. Liz Cheney, exiled by her fellow Republicans for opposing Trump's attempted coup, says she's thinking about a third-party presidential run that could further split the vote. President Biden, whom many Democrats wish to be replaced by a fresh candidate, told donors yesterday that he probably wouldn't run for reelection if Trump wasn't in the race. He noted the Republican leader's use of Nazi rhetoric about "vermin" immigrants, saying, "What in God’s name is going on? ... Trump's not even hiding the ball anymore. ... We cannot let him win." You're telling us!
In related news, election security experts are warning that Trump's efforts to illegally obtain election system software in 2021 has "urgent implications for the 2024 election and beyond," with 70 percent of votes nationwide to be counted on the machines that were compromised by MAGA freaks; and a new Harvard poll projects depressed turnout among younger voters next year, but "shows larger declines in planned participation among young Republicans and independents than young Democrats." Silver linings, eh?

Congressional Republicans are effectively holding the people of Ukraine hostage to their demands that Democrats agree to end asylum in America and severely restrict other forms of legal immigration before they sign off on President Joe Biden's request for $110.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine and Israel. Closed-door discussions are going so poorly that one GOP Sen. reportedly "started screaming at one of the generals and challenging him to why he didn't go to the [U.S.-Mexico] border" during a classified briefing yesterday with the top cabinet officials and military leaders. Given this environment, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy canceled his scheduled call-in to the briefing; apparently "something came up at the last minute." But Zelenskyy's chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, told a Washington, D.C. audience that Congress's failure to supply additional aid this month would create a "big risk" that Ukraine could lose the war, allowing Aspiring Tsar Vladimir Putin to fulfill his imperial fantasies.
