And so he's going to make these claims about negotiations that the Iranians now are sending signals that they really want to make a deal and indicates that it's going to make a deal on our terms. ... I don't believe there's anybody speaking authoritatively right now on behalf of the Iranian government with the Trump administration." via the Associated Press, the Washington Post, the Guardian, and HuffPost.

Democrats Flip State House Seat in Trump's Backyard

First-time Democratic candidate Emily Gregory yesterday defeated Jon Maples, a Republican former officeholder endorsed by Donald Trump, in special election for a Florida legislative seat in Palm Beach County – indeed, in the very district that includes Trump's Mar-a-Lago compound. Gregory has "a background in public health and mental health administration who now runs a fitness center for postpartum moms." Maples was personally promoted by Trump just days ago at a Palm Beach Republican event.

Gregory's win won't tip the balance of power in the Florida legislature, but it is the latest sign that Democrats are heavily favored in the upcoming midterm elections. "If Mar-a-Lago is vulnerable, imagine what’s possible this November," Heather Williams, president of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, tells the Associated Press, adding that Gregory's Florida victory marked the 29th seat that Democrats have flipped since the start of Trump's second term.

Senate Republicans Ready to Cave on ICE Funding?

With Transportation Security Administration officers quitting left and right after working without pay, ICE goons patrolling the gates, and hours-long security lines, America's airports are an especially miserable place at the moment. Congress has snapped into action. Cynics may suggest this in no small part because Delta Air Lines announced yesterday that it was suspending special treatment for members, forcing Reps. and Sens. into the same grueling lines as everyone else until a deal is reached to fund the Homeland Security Department, which oversees TSA.

In any event, Senate Republicans have offered a deal to fund DHS without funding ICE deportations, partially conceding to Democrats' demands not to fund the agency without key reforms. But "I'm pretty much not happy with it," says Donald Trump, who wants nothing to move until Congress passes the SAVE voter suppression Act. And Democrats aren't sold either. "This offer doesn’t have reforms and funds most of their immigration enforcement operations," Connecticut Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy says, per the Washington Post. All the same, it's nice to see the Senate GOP finally put some pressure on Trump.

'The federal government has refused to cooperate with state law enforcement. ... We cannot let them do it.'" via the Associated Press, the Minnesota Star-Tribune, and the Washington Post.

That's how much Meta must pay in damages for violating New Mexico's consumer protection laws thanks to a verdict yesterday in a lawsuit brought by the state's Democratic Attorney General, Raúl Torrez. Meta "put profits over kids' safety," Torrez says. "Meta executives knew their products harmed children, disregarded warnings from their own employees and lied to the public about what they knew."

The Big Tech company is eyeing a $9 trillion valuation by 2031, a 500 percent increase from its current market capitalization, the Wall Street Journal reports.
