Five Nations Sanction Israeli Ministers, Israel Shoots to Death 20 Starving Palestinians Waiting for Food

The United Kingdom, with Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Norway, sanctioned a pair of prominent ultra-right Israeli ministers yesterday, the BBC and The Guardian reported, for “inciting violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.” The sanctions freeze the assets of national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and finance minister Bezalel Smotrich in the five nations, bar their entry, and make it an offense to provide them with assets. 

The sanctions are punishment for both comments and actions, including marching with a mob through Jerusalem’s Muslim Quarter chanting “death to Arabs,” “may your village burn,” and other “monstrous” chants, and planning to destroy Gaza. A joint statement from the group took particular aim at settler violence, saying that it imperils stability in the region and calling new settlements “appalling and dangerous.” United States officials condemned the sanctions, and the racist anti-Muslim US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, said the US was abandoning the goal of an independent Palestinian state. 

Also on Tuesday, the Israeli government swiftly deported Swedish activist Greta Thunberg after the military seized her and her fellow volunteers on the Freedom Flotilla Coalition ship, the Madleen. Israeli authorities put her on a plane to France, where she was to fly home to Sweden – an unnecessarily petty indignity given that she does not fly for environmental reasons. Thunberg spoke to reporters when she landed in Europe and when one asked why she thinks governments are ignoring what is happening in Gaza, she responded: 

Because of racism, that’s the simple answer, I would say. Racism and basically desperately trying to defend a destructive, deadly system that systematically puts short-term economic profit and to maximize geopolitical power over the well-being of humans and the planet. And right now, it’s very, very difficult to morally defend that. It is impossible. But still, they are desperately trying, which is – absurd is not the word, but there are no words to describe it. 

Meanwhile, Israeli forces continued to use their corrupt aid distribution centers run with the US as shooting galleries. Soldiers on Tuesday shot to death 20 people as they waited for food from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, Al Jazeera reported, including a 12-year-old child, and wounded more than 200 more. Between dawn and dusk, Israeli forces had killed more than 70 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip.

California Gov. Files Emergency Motion to Block Troops

Trump ordered almost 5,000 troops of the National Guard and the Marines to protect federal buildings in Los Angeles, but what they’re really doing is protecting the masked thugs of the American Gestapo as they carry out their raids and arrest immigrants, the AP and The Guardian reported. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement posted photos on social media showing multiple National Guard members dressed for war and standing watch over the arrest of a single person – pure theater that’s costing taxpayers $134 million, NBC reported. California Gov. Newsom on Tuesday filed an emergency motion asking a federal court to block troops from helping with raids, and a judge set a hearing for Thursday. Trump is “pulling a military dragnet” across Los Angeles, Newsom said. 

Thousands of people nationwide continued objecting to Trump’s immigration raids, holding rallies throughout the country in Chicago, New York, and elsewhere. “I think we’re really here just because we hope we can make a difference and show ICE is not welcome,” one protester in Manhattan told The New York Times, adding that her city and Los Angeles are connected by their large Hispanic populations. “We’re one community despite the distance.”

Feds Surveilled Musk’s Foreign Visitors for Years

Homeland Security and the Department of Justice monitored which foreign nationals were visiting Elon Musk’s properties in 2022 and 2023 to learn who wanted to influence him, according to The Wall Street Journal. “Several” US government agencies were involved, including the FBI. White House officials told the WSJ they were unaware of the investigation, which predated Trump’s second term. But sources also said that Musk’s “association with foreign nationals” had caused tensions with the administration, such as his habit of traveling with foreigners so often that his super PAC “became concerned about who was joining him at meetings and events.”
