THE BIG NEWS
Turns Out, You Can Shed Student Debt in Bankruptcy
Here’s a nice piece of service journalism from the NYT: the idea that you can’t get out of student loan debt in bankruptcy is a myth. The Times covered an academic study published this month that found that “the vast majority of student debtors who seek discharges in bankruptcy are getting them.”
“Borrowers have an 87 percent success rate in dismissing most or all of their loans in bankruptcy, according to the study by Jason Iuliano, a professor at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law. That is up from 61 percent in 2017 and more than double the rate nearly two decades ago.”
The process for discharging student loan debt is different from the one for consumer loans like credit card or medical debt. According to the NYT, “Debtors need to file a separate lawsuit, known as an adversary proceeding, which many lawyers haven’t been inclined to take on.” However, the process is not as difficult as it used to be, thanks to a Biden-era rule change that made it clearer and gave borrowers a simplified 15-page attestation form with which to present their case.
This is good info given the regime’s decision to force millions of people into student loan repayment and seize the paychecks of some borrowers as early as this week. I’m no lawyer, and this is not legal advice, but it might be good to jump on this before the ghouls find a way to get rid of it.

That’s how many Tesla Cybertrucks Ben Horowitz, co-founder of the Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, gave to the Las Vegas Police Department. Horowitz’s company spent $400 million “to help Musk take over Twitter in 2022” (which, ok, tell me again why the richest man in the world needed “help” with that?), so surely it’s reasonable to interpret this as some financial slight of hand.
Anyways. Cybertrucks have been recalled 10 times in two years because side panelling is “prone to flying off while driving,” the front lights are too bright, and it has “a gas pedal that accelerates uncontrollably.” The problem that caused the most recent recall “was due to the truck’s light bar being susceptible to falling off and causing a road hazard to other vehicles.”
