TSA Giving ICE Info on Every Domestic Air Passenger 

The Transportation Security Administration has since March been giving immigration agents the names and details of everyone traveling on domestic flights so they can pick out people to terrorize and disappear, the NYT reported. The program, previously a secret, provides ICE with passengers’ flight number, departure time and photo, “sometimes just hours” before takeoff. 

ICE then compares that information with its own database of people subject to deportation and sends out agents to abduct them. “A former senior ICE official with knowledge of the airport program said the California office often sent several tips a day on potential arrestees at airports in the region the official worked in,” the Times reported. The former official added that the program “is particularly effective because it allows ICE to quickly deport those who are arrested.” 

There’s no count of how many people ICE has disappeared through TSA’s collaboration, but a source told the NYT that it yielded arrests in 75 percent of instances where names were flagged. Leaked documents show it was how ICE snatched Any Lucía López Belloza, “the college student picked up at Boston Logan Airport on Nov. 20 and deported to Honduras two days later.” 

Gunmen Kill 15 at Hanukkah Celebration in Australia 

Two gunmen killed at least 15 people celebrating the first night of Hanukkah on Bondi Beach in Sydney yesterday and injured dozens more, Al Jazeera, The Guardian, HuffPost, and the NYT reported. The ultra-Orthodox Brooklyn-based organization Chabad was hosting the event; Chabad is aligned with Israel’s far-right pro-genocide Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, as Jewish Currents pointed out this spring, and supports illegal settlements in Palestine. Police said one of the shooters is dead and the other is in critical condition. Mass shootings are rare in Australia and those on the beach yesterday described scenes of panic and terror. A bright spot in the horrific holiday attack was the solidarity and bravery of 43-year-old Australian dad Ahmed al Ahmed, who fought one of the gunmen with his bare hands, 7News Australia, The Guardian and News Corp. Australia reported. Al Ahmed, who runs a local fruit shop, flung himself at the shooter, wrestled away his gun, and no doubt saved lives. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the struggle. Al Ahmed’s fellow Australians hailed him as a hero as he underwent surgery yesterday. Keep vigilant out there everyone and protect each other.

The images were selected out of 95,000 new photos from the Epstein estate.

“It is time to end this White House cover-up and bring justice to the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and his powerful friends,” Ranking Member Robert Garcia said in a press release about the images. “These disturbing photos raise even more questions about Epstein and his relationships with some of the most powerful men in the world. We will not rest until the American people get the truth. The Department of Justice must release all the files, NOW.” As CNN put it, the photos “by themselves don’t tell us a whole lot.” But a poll from Reuters/IPSOS last week found that Americans don’t really need them to understand reality. Per Reuters, the results show “that most Americans believe Trump’s administration is covering up information about the late sex offender, including his 2019 death and his ties to rich and powerful people, and do not believe Trump’s claim that he was unaware of Epstein's alleged trafficking of teenage girls when the two were friends decades ago.”

  • Cambodia-Thailand Fighting Continues Despite Trump’s Claim of a Ceasefire Trump said Friday that both governments agreed to “cease all shooting,” but that’s a lie, the two essentially said the next day. The governments disagree on the number of dead. The Thai military says 11 of its troops and 165 of Cambodia’s are dead; Cambodia hasn’t given military casualties but says at least 11 civilians have been killed and 76 wounded. At least 700,000 people have been evacuated on both sides of the border. via the BBC, Reuters and NBC News.  
  • Hegseth’s Military Jeopardized JetBlue Flight Mid-Air Off Coast of Venezuela On Friday, a military refueling tanker nearly hit JetBlue Flight 1112 mid-air, which was flying off the coast of Venezuela from Curaçao on its way to New York City’s JFK airport. “We almost had a midair collision up here,” the JetBlue pilot told air traffic control, according to a recording of the conversation. “They passed directly in our flight path. ... They don’t have their transponder turned on, it’s outrageous.” via the AP.
