Trump Torches Forest Service, Ends Wildfire Research

Just as California endures its first wildfire of the season, the anti-science, pro-death Trump regime is shutting down most of the US Forest Service offices that research wildfires, High Country News and the NYT reported. The closures are part of a massive “reorganization” of the 121-year-old service that also includes moving the headquarters from Washington, DC to Salt Lake City, Utah, “the beating heart of the anti-public lands movement in America,” as Hatch Magazine put it. Per Hatch:

They’re shuttering every single one of the ten regional offices that have governed this agency since Gifford Pinchot built the system over a century ago — and with them, the career professionals who spent entire lifetimes earning the expertise and the authority to push back when politicians came calling with bad ideas and worse motives. They’re destroying more than fifty research facilities across thirty-one states, labs that house decades of irreplaceable long-term science, the kind you literally cannot restart once it’s gone. And they’re replacing all of it — the offices, the scientists, the institutional knowledge, the professional independence — with fifteen political appointees called “state directors,” embedded in state capitals alongside the very governors, legislators, and industry lobbyists who have spent their careers demanding that the Forest Service log more, protect less, and get out of the way.

The news flew under the radar last week after US Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins’s announcement, in which she claims the move will usher in a “common-sense approach to improve mission delivery.” But forest service workers and conservationists say that’s a lie.

As The Wilderness Society’s conservation campaigns director Josh Hicks told the AP, the changes will limit public access to public forests and harm wildlife habitat, water and air.

“At a time when wildfires are getting worse, and access to public lands is already under strain,” he said, “the last thing we need is an unnecessary reorganization that creates chaos and confusion for the land managers, researchers and wildland firefighters who help keep our forests healthy now and for future generations.”

Deadly Bacterial Disease Making a Comeback as US Government Spreads Disinfo

Doctors are warning that fewer parents are vaccinating their children against Haemophilus influenzae type b, or ‘Hib,’ an extremely contagious bacteria that annually sickened 20,000 children and killed about 1,000 before a vaccine was available in 1987, NBC News reported. Many doctors who trained after that point have never seen a case. But that’s likely to change because the percentage of babies who’ve had the full series of Hib shots is declining. Per NBC:

“Measles is the beginning,” said Utah’s state epidemiologist, Dr. Leisha Nolen. The state is in the middle of an accelerating measles outbreak, with 559 cases as of Tuesday.

As more people stop vaccinating children against diseases, Hib “is something that we might see soon,” Nolen said. “It’s really tragic to think we’re going to have to go back to having emergency rooms filled with little babies who have this highly, highly deadly and dangerous disease.”

The US government has been actively encouraging Americans to reject vaccines for years, even before the pestilential anti-vax crusader RFK Jr. and his disgusting brain worm became the Health and Human Services secretaries. Government agencies, along with health advocacy groups and businesses, “spent nearly $37 million over four years to advertise on news websites accused of promoting misinformation,” according to a new study covered on the University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy blog. Per CIDRAP:

About 10% of the more than $336 million that the sites made from advertising from 2021 to 2024 came from health groups, including government agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); drug makers such as Pfizer and Eli Lilly; and nonprofits such as the American Heart Association (AHA) and Alzheimer’s Association.

News websites with a history of spreading health misinformation, including NewsMax and ZeroHedge, “are directly at odds with the missions of these organizations,” said Neeraj Patel, a fourth-year medical student at the Yale School of Medicine and first author of the new paper.
