Trump to Disappear Ábrego García to Uganda
The Trump regime plans to deport Maryland dad Kilmar Ábrego García to Uganda this week unless he pleads guilty to smuggling charges and agrees to exile in Costa Rica, the AP, The Guardian, and NPR reported. It’s the latest in months of torment for the 30-year old, whom immigration officials in March wrongly deported to his home country of El Salvador. There he spent weeks in the notorious Terrorism Confinement Center gulag, where his attorneys say he was physically and psychologically tortured. The Supreme Court ordered Trump to “facilitate” Ábrego García’s return to the US; after hemming, hawing, and lying that they couldn’t, the regime brought him back in June. Then they charged him with human trafficking, which he denies. His criminal trial is expected in January.
Ábrego García was released from jail in Tennessee on Friday and returned home late that night, wearing an ankle monitor and “greeted with flowers, metallic streamers and cheers. In videos circulated by immigrant rights groups, he shared long, tearful embraces with his wife, children and other family members. He expressed his gratitude to the people who had not abandoned him,” the NYT reported. But the celebration was dampened by the message his lawyers received the same day from the Department of Homeland Security. Officials said that the government would deport Ábrego García to Uganda because he declined an offer to be deported to Costa Rica in exchange for pleading guilty to the government’s charges and staying in jail. Ábrego García’s attorneys say the threat is an attempt to bully him into pleading guilty and that there’s nothing preventing Uganda from sending him right back to El Salvador.
Officials told Ábrego García to report to immigration authorities today. According to the NYT, he arrived for the check-in before 8 a.m. with his wife and brother and reminded supporters that he is not the only person ICE is abusing:
He urged the crowd to remember that his case was not about just one immigrant family. “Regardless of what happens here with ICE, promise me this that you will keep fighting, praying, believing in dignity — not only for me but for everyone,” he said.
By 8:20 a.m. immigration officials had taken him into custody. It was unclear why or where they would take him next.

“I just would like to put out there that I also focused on how I think the president got swept into some of this unnecessarily, by the way. And I'm not a conspiracy theorist, and I certainly don't subscribe to all the – all of everything that I see. But I do believe that there is animus in some areas that may have contributed to how the use of the president to harm him, that I find deeply offensive. And whilst I can't obviously say definitively that that is what it is, I would like to show you what I see so that you can evaluate it and do with that as you see fit if it needs to be addressed. I've seen it, it struck me, and I would like to give it to you.”
