In Primetime Address, Trump Tells The Country A Bunch of Lies
President Donald Trump gave a typically bizarre, lie-filled speech last night about how Joe Biden and the Democrats had destroyed the country, he was fixing it, and soon we would be in a golden age like you wouldn't believe. For his fans, there was plenty of red meat: demonizing migrants and trans people, promising to root out corruption with Elon Musk's DOGE goons, and highlighting his own genius.
Trump repeatedly mocked Democrats, some of whom held up little signs that read "Musk Steals" or "Lies." Rep. Al Green, the elderly Texan known for waving around his cane, heckled Trump before being politely escorted out by security. Rep. Pramila Jayapal walked out, as did Sen. Bernie Sanders, though not all of that was caught on camera.
Trump called Sen. Elizabeth Warren "Pocahontas" again. Wokeness "is gone and we feel so much better for it," he said.
Trump had a number of guests – the family of Laken Riley, whose murder by an undocumented migrant inspired anti-immigration legislation in Congress; the family of Corey Comperatore, who was shot and killed at Trump's Butler, PA, rally; a high school girl who was hit in the face by a volleyball struck by a trans girl and now is playing the role of victimized student-athlete. Several times, he acknowledged people in the audience and then described, in gruesome terms, the murders of their loved ones.
This being Trump, the proceedings – more than two hours of gabbing, making it one of the longest presidential addresses in decades – occasionally had the feel of a rambling game show. Trump introduced a 13-year-old child with brain cancer, who was dressed in a cop uniform because he dreamed of becoming a police officer. Trump surprised him by telling the head of the Secret Service to give the boy a badge and make him a Secret Service agent. Trump did a similar trick with a young man who he granted admission on the spot to West Point.
It was all very weird and grim, a grotesque pageant filled with lies and cheap propaganda about some of the most vulnerable members of society. There were a few jokes and some giveaways, and no awareness that his drunk goldbug economic policy is about to provoke the next recession.
Besides some light Democratic theatrics, there wasn't much surprising. Trump touted a bunch of rapid-fire executive orders, the chaos of DOGE, and his protection-racket foreign policy as somehow reflecting a new era of strength and prosperity. But outside the MAGA bubble, the score is pretty clear.

- CFPB Drops Zelle Fraud Lawsuit The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau dismissed a lawsuit it had filed against the Zelle payments system and three banks involved with it – Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo. The CFPB dismissed the suit with prejudice, meaning it can't file it again, despite hundreds of millions of dollars lost by consumers via fraud on Zelle. via CNBC.
