Anti-Trump Labor Leader Spoiling for Top Teamsters Job

The first Black leader of Teamster Local 623 in Philadelphia is challenging Sean O’Brien to head Teamsters International, saying the Trump friend can’t be trusted and questioning why any labor leader would align with an obvious union-buster. 

Richard Hooker Jr. is running along with others on the Fearless Slate, challenging O’Brian’s leadership after he cozied up to Trump and drastically changed the union’s political alliance by sending far more money to Republican congressional candidates and organizations than to Democrats. O’Brien “acts like a king and wants us to be blind faithful subjects – just like the bosses want. Until we get that mindset out of our own organization we can never get it out of our workplaces,” states the Fearless Slate website. The leadership election is in November 2026. Among other priorities, Hooker wants Teamsters to reaffiliate with the AFL-CIO, the largest US federation of labor unions. The Teamsters left in 2005 under the leadership of James P. Hoffa, as did SEIU. 

Aligning with Trump jeopardizes the workers, Hooker told the Guardian, an analysis supported by the regime’s egregious anti-worker abuse. Trump illegally banned collective bargaining at multiple agencies via March and August executive orders, for example, attacked the National Labor Review Board, and has been harrying the federal workforce with thousands of illegal layoffs. The guy hates workers, anybody can see that, because he wants to be king and bring back slavery. Unions have been screaming for years about how Trump swindles workers and refuses to pay his bills, as the United Steelworkers did in 2016, when they called out his “rape-and-pillage” practices. They’re right! He’s a crook! Hooker is also frustrated by the 2023 UPS contract under O’Brien’s leadership, which eliminated 48,000 jobs. 

Per The Guardian: 

“When he was running, the first time he was saying the truth about Trump,” Hooker said, suggesting O’Brien made his early attacks on Trump just to win election as Teamsters president. “Now that he’s elected, he has decided to go along with Trump and everything that he’s done. But not just Trump, also the ruling class, the employer class, billionaire class, because that’s who Trump represents. He doesn’t represent the workers.”

Hooker asked, “What has the union got from Trump? What have we got? We haven’t gotten anything now. Reaching across the aisle is one thing, he said, but unions have no business aligning with “someone who has a history of annihilating workers and the working class.” Hooker would be the first Black president of The Teamsters. He’s already getting hate from cowards who leave anonymous racist voicemails.  

Trump Ignores Judge’s Orders Trump to Fund Food Stamps, Throws Gatsby Party

The headline of my colleague’s story continues to sum up the situation: Trump Is Illegally Withholding Food From Needy Families. Trump issued a memo on Friday saying he can’t use a $5 billion contingency fund to make sure the 42 million people who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, got their benefits on Nov. 1. Then a federal judge ruled the same day that Trump must fund the program. Then Trump ignored the order and threw himself a big, garish 1920s Great Gatsby halloween party and bragged about his new bathroom. Then it was Saturday, and people did not get their SNAP benefits. According to NBC News, that meant people across the country spent the weekend struggling to feed their families, lining up at food banks and mass distribution sites. In Houston, for example, people lined up before dawn at a stadium converted into a food distribution site, hoping to get produce and frozen chicken before it ran out. Chief Judge John J. McConnell Jr. of the US District Court for the District of Rhode Island followed his Friday ruling with an order on Saturday saying the administration can either make full payments by Monday or partial payments by Wednesday, which is frankly confounding logic. The order also acknowledged a post Trump made on social media that said, “I do not want Americans to go hungry…If we are given the appropriate legal direction by the court, it will BE MY HONOR to provide the funding.” (OK? They did, so do it?) McConnell said in a footnote that “The Court greatly appreciates the President’s quick and definitive response to this Court’s Order and his desire to provide the necessary SNAP funding.” (WTF is this?) Meanwhile, Trump’s Department of Agriculture warned grocery stores that they’re not allowed to help SNAP users with special discounts. These people are deathmongers. Bigoted Rep. Nancy Mace Goes Screamo Mode at Airport 

The South Carolina lawmaker who wants to be governor continued her bizarre and aggressive public behavior by cussing out cops and TSA officers because they did not jump fast enough to escort her to her gate. According to the police report Wired obtained, she did not arrive at the curb like she was supposed to; instead she drove to a Known Crewmember entrance, which is for workers. Officers who were going to escort her to her gate found her quickly, but even so she immediately began “loudly cursing and making derogatory comments to us about the department. She repeatedly stated we were ‘F*cking incompetent,’ and ‘this is no way to treat a f*cking US Representative,’” Wired said an officer reported. “The entire walk to gate B-8 she was cursing and complaining and often doing the same into her phone,” an officer writes in the report. In the main incident report, an officer notes that Mace was yelling into her phone, either on a phone call or dictating text messages. “After standing in the vicinity of B-8 for several minutes with her continuing her tirade, she finally boarded the aircraft.”

This isn’t the first time the bigoted Mace has made a public spectacle of herself, like the time she flipped out at someone who asked if she was going to hold a town hall. She also enjoys lying, such as when she said a man assaulted her when in fact he simply shook her hand. A TSA supervisor said they would report Mace to their bosses. German police officers caught up with her in June 1944 and sent her to a concentration camp, where she continued to fight, including by sabotaging the gas masks the troops forced prisoners to make. Swedish Red Cross workers liberated her the following year. “I can still hardly believe that people who should have remained unremarkable ended up memorialized on lists and monuments,” she wrote. “We were ordinary people plunged into extraordinary circumstances.”
