Trump Pauses Ukraine Aid While Continuing Criticism of Zelensky
Despite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky genuflecting before American officials last week, Donald Trump is still playing the role of insulted patron. Yesterday he announced that the US is pausing military aid to Ukraine. The decision has the effect of pausing various shipments of weapons that were arranged under the Biden administration.
In response to a (seemingly out of context) quote from Zelensky that the war with Russia could go on for a very long time, Trump wrote on Truth Social, "This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer!"
Trump accused Zelensky of not wanting peace – a sentiment echoed in the media by National Security Adviser Michael Waltz and other Trump admin officials. "I just think he should be more appreciative," said Trump at a news conference.
Zelensky, who has repeatedly thanked the United States including during last week's Oval Office dustup, has said that he wants his relationship with the US to continue and that he intends to sign a mineral-rights agreement that the Trump admin has been pushing hard for.

Tariffs Against Mexico and Canada Start Today
After a one-month reprieve, Trump's promised tariffs of 25% on all imports from Mexico and Canada will go into effect today. As the AP noted, "U.S. stock markets moved sharply lower after Trump’s comments" confirming that the tariffs would begin – because it's a deeply stupid, economically harmful policy. It's not just the additional taxes; the uncertainty from Trump's shifting tariff and economic policy is already disrupting business supply chains.

- Another Car Ramming Attack Kills Two In Germany In Mannheim, in western Germany, a 40-year-old man drove a car into a crowd of people, killing two. The police claim he wasn't a religious extremist. Germany has experienced several car attacks and other public acts of violence in recent months. via Reuters.
