Thousands Protest Trump’s ‘War’ on Chicago
Chicagoans this weekend told Trump to take his warmongering and shove it. They marched through the streets by the thousands, carrying signs that compared him to Hitler, calling for protections for immigrants and pledging to fight back if he deploys National Guard soldiers, the AP, the Chicago Tribune and NBC News reported.
“If he thinks these frivolous theatrics to undermine our sovereignty will shut out the passion we have for protecting our people, this is Chicago, and he is sorely mistaken,” one community leader told Al Jazeera. “We have been studying LA and DC, and they have stood up for their cities.”
The protest came as Trump posted a meme on social media based on the film Apocalypse Now with the text “Chipocalypse Now” and writing “Chicago is about to find out why it’s called the Department of WAR.” The day before he signed yet another executive order, this time giving the Department of Defense that name. Illinois Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker responded, saying the state is not afraid and that “Illinois won’t be intimidated by a wannabe dictator.” The day before, Pritzker said he had faith in residents to record any evidence of Trump’s lawlessness in Chicago, which could then be used in court. A 76-year-old protester at Saturday’s march in the neighborhood of Pilsen said residents would do just that.
“We’re organizing to document detentions, report them, and do our best to defend people who are detained. In fact, that’s one of the main reasons we’re here today. Cameras at the ready. So far, there haven’t been any incidents, but [we are] prepared to document because that’s basically what we can do at this point,” Read told the Chicago Sun-Times. “If you are defenders of democracy and human rights, you need to be in solidarity right now.”

Trump’s Gestapo Arrests Hundreds of South Korean Workers in Georgia Raid
Immigration officials conducted the biggest single-site enforcement operation in the Department of Homeland Security’s history last week when it raided a Hyundai car battery factory in Georgia and hauled away hundreds of workers, most of them from South Korea, according to The Guardian. Trump officials put the number at 475 workers; South Korean sources told the Korea Economic Daily that it was 560 workers. Hyundai is a South Korean company and the factory ICE raided was supposed to be a massive economic boost for the state, according to Republican governor Brian Kemp, who Trump called “a disloyal guy” last year and taunted with “little Brian, little Brian Kemp, bad guy.” On Sunday, the South Korean government announced that more than 300 South Korean workers would be released and brought home.
Job Numbers Still Bad
In Totally Shocking News (sarcastic), data from the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics was still gloomy, even after Trump fired BLS Commissioner Erika McEntarfer because he said she was rigging the data to make him look bad. Well, guess what. Now she’s gone, and the numbers still suck. According to NPR, the report issued Friday shows that the US “added just 22,000 jobs in August – far less than anticipated. It also included a revision to the June report revealing that the country lost jobs that month for the first time since 2020.”
