THE BIG NEWS

Texas Dems Leave State to Stop Trump-Backed Redistricting

Texas House Democrats left the state yesterday to block today’s vote on a new congressional map that could give Republicans five more U.S. House seats in next year’s midterms – enough to stop Democrats from regaining the majority, according to the AP, Texas Tribune and The New York Times. Most of the 62 House Democrats fled; the 150-member chamber needs at least 100 members present to conduct business. Trump demanded the legislature redistrict the state because his policies are massively unpopular and he can’t hang on to the majority unless he cheats.

Democrats posted videos and photos on their way out the door. “We didn’t start this fight — Donald Trump started it,” said Rep. Ramon Romero Jr. in one video. “You see me? Look here. Bye.” Most who left went to Illinois, where Gov. JB Pritzker has been considering retaliating against the Texas redistrict by redrawing his own state’s map in favor of Democrats.

Meanwhile, Republicans got mad. House Speaker Dustin Burrows, who recently oversaw repeated failures to prepare for devastating floods, said “all options will be put on the table” if there aren’t enough members around today at 3 p.m. Republicans could issue civil arrest warrants against the Democrats, as they did in a previous walkout, or withhold their pay. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton went on social media yesterday to call the Democrats “cowards” for fleeing, which is rich coming from him. Anybody remember that one time when Paxton fled his house to avoid being served a subpoena? Gov. Greg Abbott threatened arrest and expulsion, to which Democrats responded: “Come and take it.”

Convicted Child Sex Trafficker Maxwell Moves to Fancy Low-Security Jail of the Rich and Famous

Convicted serial sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, who for years lured, abused, and tormented girls and women with her now-dead ex-boyfriend, has been moved from federal prison in Florida to a fancy dormitory-style low-security jail in Texas, according to The Washington Post. Her attorney won’t say why, and Pamela Bondi’s Justice Department won’t comment at all. Maxwell is four years into a 20-year sentence and joins other well-connected liars, thieves and predators in what one former inmate said was so cushy that serving time there is “like having a sabbatical,” according to NBC News. Maxwell’s new roomies include convicted felon and Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, who defrauded other rich people with her fake blood-testing company, and Jen Shaw, former cast member of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, who pleaded guilty of conspiring to commit wire fraud and money laundering in a plot to steal from old people. Meanwhile, House Oversight Chair James Comer said Friday that Maxwell’s congressional deposition is “indefinitely postponed,” Politico reported, pending her Supreme Court petition. Sure feels like this lady, the true “worst of the worst,” is gonna end up back on the streets in no time. Oh, and the FBI redacted Trump’s name from Epstein documents.

Enraged by Message of Slower Growth, Trump Shoots Messenger

The Narcissist-in-Chief fired the Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer because he did not personally like the jobs data she published hours earlier showing higher unemployment in May and June, The Guardian, The NYT and The Washington Post reported. Without evidence, Trump posted on social media that the poor jobs report was “RIGGED in order to make the Republicans, and ME, look bad,” adding, “But, the good news is, our Country is doing GREAT!” For more information about how great we’re doing, please view the first Mr. Clips and/or reality.

SOME NUMBER

60,000

That’s how many metric tons of food meant for starving people are stuck in US and global warehouses after the Trump regime shut down the US Agency for International Development last month, The Washington Post reported. Some of the food is close to expiration; 15,000 pounds of US-branded aid has already been labeled “DESTROY’ because it expired before it could be sent to places like Sudan, where people are starving to death.
