THE BIG NEWS
Supreme Court Approves Racial Profiling
The ultra-conservative high priests ruled yesterday that federal agents can stop and detain people in LA based solely on their race, whether they speak Spanish, or are in the wrong place at the wrong time, like a construction site where they work, the Los Angeles Times, NYT, and The Guardian reported. In other words, the “justices” ruled in favor of racial profiling. The ruling overturned a federal judge’s temporary restraining order forbidding agents from questioning people about their immigration status based on their race or job; now the Trump gestapo can continue their racist harassment and abuse while litigation moves through the court system. The US just officially became a country where people will carry their papers on them at all times.
Per the NYT:
For American citizens of Hispanic descent in Los Angeles — especially people who speak with an accent or work as manual laborers — that means they will continue to risk being stopped and questioned whenever they go out. They may see it as a necessary precaution to always carry documents with them in a way that other Americans need not.
The Department of Homeland Security immediately said the ruling was a victory and promised to “FLOOD THE ZONE” in LA. Greg Bovino, head of US Border Patrol in LA, said, “We are going hard in Los Angeles today and are hitting a location as I write this.” Gov. Gavin Newsom called the Supreme Court’s conservative majority the “Grand Marshal” of racial terror. “This isn’t about enforcing immigration laws — it’s about targeting Latinos and anyone who doesn’t look or sound like Stephen Miller’s idea of an American, including US citizens and children, to deliberately harm California’s families and small businesses,” he said in a statement.
