Senate Passes Big F*cked Up Bill
There was the tiniest glimmer of hope late Wednesday night, when it seemed like maybe, just maybe, some Republicans would grow a spine and refuse to sell out the American public. But no. Senators passed Trump’s keystone domestic policy legislation 218 to 214, with all but two Republicans voting for and all Democrats voting against.
The bill remakes America into a police state in which millions fewer people have access to modern medicine. It allocates $175 billion to Trump’s racist immigration terror campaign, including an extra $30 billion for ICE. The current ICE budget is about $8 billion per year, according to The Intercept. The bill allocates $45 billion for detention facilities – more than five times what’s spent on the Bureau of Prisons. Yay, happy Independence Day. It also cuts Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act, and is projected to kick at least 17 million people off their insurance plans. Yay, MAHA.
How did Trump get those holdouts and stragglers on board, you ask? Well, he gave them an offer they couldn’t refuse: “cool” merch. As those chucklef*cks fawned over their trinkets, their deadly bill claimed one of its first victims: Curtis Medical Center, a hospital in Curtis, Nebraska. “Unfortunately, the current financial environment, driven by anticipated federal budget cuts to Medicaid, has made it impossible for us to continue operating all of our services, many of which have faced significant financial challenges for years,” said Troy Bruntz, president and CEO of Community Hospital. Officials estimated that the spending bill will force up to six Nebraska hospitals to close.
