Senate Dems Cave for Nothing

After holding out for 40 days, Senate Democrats last night came up with a deal to end the shutdown that gets us virtually nothing. Senators voted 60-40 to advance a funding bill to reopen the government that fails to protect healthcare. Eight Democrats joined the Republicans.

According to Politico, three out-of-touch senators are to blame for negotiating the bill: Sens. Angus King (I-ME), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH). The first two can’t be primaried for years because their terms are respectively up in January of 2031 and 2029, and Shaheen is retiring. So they’re nice and comfy, doing the dirty work of Senate Minority Leader Charles Feckless Schumer (D-NY) from their positions of safety. GOP senators also contributed to the bill, because what better time to reach across the aisle than when the other side wants people to die? That’s what will happen if this horsesh*t passes the House, because it comes with merely a “promise” from Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) that he’ll hold a vote in December to extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies that will otherwise expire in about eight weeks.

HuffPost reported that Democrats who weren’t involved in this failure were “apoplectic.” At least one understands that promises from Trump’s GOP are worthless. “I’ve said it since the start of this shutdown – Republicans do not negotiate in good faith, and any deal that fails to protect healthcare is not a deal at all,” said Illinois Democratic Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton, who wants Republican Sen. Dick Durbin’s seat when he retires shortly. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) doesn’t like it, either. In a statement published to his website last night, he said his chamber would hold the line until there is bipartisan legislation that will “decisively address the Republican healthcare crisis.” He avoided saying anything bad about Democrats, which, OK, soldier. “It now appears that Senate Republicans will send the House of Representatives a spending bill that fails to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits,” Jeffries said in the statement. “As a result of the Republican refusal to address the healthcare crisis that they have created, tens of millions of everyday Americans are going to see their costs skyrocket. Many will not be able to afford a doctor when they or their children need one.”

Trump Serves Truffles While Americans Starve

The regime is continuing to torment the 42 million Americans who use monthly Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits to afford groceries. On Friday, a federal judge told Trump he had to fully fund SNAP by the end of the day. So he went crying to the Supreme Court, even though his administration has already admitted that there are billions of dollars available to fund the program. Hours later, Justice Ketanji Brown temporarily halted the lower court’s order, NBC News reported, to give the appeals court more time to consider arguments. Then Trump threw another gilded party, this time with an “opera and truffles” theme. For the rest of the weekend, the regime amused itself by taking out the lash again. Officials on Saturday demanded that states “immediately undo” the food aid they’ve sent people and threatened steep fines if they did not “comply,” the NYT reported. On Sunday, the regime said state officials will be “responsible for the consequences of their actions” and reiterated that SNAP benefits should not be fully funded for November, the month when many people like to make a big celebratory dinner on the fourth Thursday. SNAP users will not be able to do that this year if they do not get their benefits. Some are so financially stressed at this point that they’re cost-cutting in heartbreaking ways, including surrendering beloved pets because they can’t afford them anymore.

A number of states have released full benefits to residents, including Kansas, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. At least one is telling Trump to get wrecked. Earlier last week, after a federal judge demanded the regime fully fund SNAP, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers’ administration pushed through a request to fill Wisconsinites’ card balances and about 700,000 people received their full November allotment, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. In response to Trump’s demand to take it back, Evers had one thing to say. “No.”

Regime Wants to Imprison Immigrants in Amazon Warehouses

Trump wants to massively expand his gulag archipelago by using warehouses built for Amazon as “mega” concentration camps. NBC News characterized the plan as “a move that would vastly expand the government’s detention capacity,” which a source also said would “increase efficiency.” According to NBC, the regime is “past the early stages but not yet final” in its plan to buy warehouses that are more than twice the size of ICE facilities. The locations are yet to be determined. “It was not immediately clear who owns the warehouses that the government may buy and the DHS official and the White House official did not know how much the deals could be worth.” Amazon wouldn’t be part of any deal, the report said, nor would it profit from any of the deals. Personally, I find it hard to believe Amazon would not be compensated in some way, but that is what the story said.

The day before that story came out, both major private prison companies announced that they continued to make piles of money during the third quarter thanks to government contracts to immiserate immigrants, just like they did the quarter before, as I reported. At CoreCivic, net income for the third quarter was $26.3 million, up from $21.1 million for the same period last year. It was even better news at GeoGroup, which reported net income of $173.9 million for the quarter, up from $26.3 million for the same period last year. Both outfits used their earnings reports to advertise that they have a combined 13,000 beds available for hire.

The upshot of this is that the terror campaign is a racket and the regime is diversifying its portfolio of gulag operators, either to prepare for even bigger raids, to play hardball with the prison company executives, or both.
