Regime to Force Millions Into Student Loan Repayment – The Wednesday AM Quickie 12/10/25

If you’ve ever been told that your insurance no longer covers medicine you need, it’s probably because of a shadowy type of intermediary called a pharmacy benefit manager. I wrote about these billion-dollar entities, which, like all middlemen, are juicing the American cost-of-living crisis. Bye for now, Corey has you till next week. - Whitney

THE BIG NEWS

Regime Deal to End SAVE Program Would Force Millions Into Student Loan Repayment

Seven million people enrolled in the Saving on a Valuable Education student loan repayment plan are in limbo after the regime said last night that it had made a deal to end the Biden-era program, according to NBC News and the Washington Post. The regime struck a joint settlement agreement with seven red states, concluding a lawsuit challenging the legality of the program. SAVE “was the most flexible and generous of all income-driven repayment plans,” according to NRP, “promising expedited loan forgiveness and monthly payments as low as $0 for low-income borrowers.” The plaintiff states’ attorneys general said that SAVE was too generous.

If the District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri approves the proposed settlement, those enrolled “will have a limited time to find a new plan,” said the US Department of Education, which is led by former professional wrestling executive Linda McMahon, who has no experience in education. According to the Washington Post, there’s no timeline in the proposed deal and McMahon’s department didn’t respond to a request for details. Under the agreement, the department must stop enrollments in the plan, “deny any pending applications and move current enrollees out of the program,” the Post reported. It comes as everything is more expensive and as America hits its “forever layoffs” era with 1.1 million workers fired so far this year. So, sure, great, let’s force 7 million more people into repayment, sounds good.

“This is a back-room deal between the billionaire education secretary and a right-wing state AG that goes far further than the law requires,” Mike Pierce, executive director at Protect Borrowers, told the Post. “The real story here is the unrelenting, right-wing push to jack up costs on working people with student debt.”

Hegseth Sends Fighter Jets Near Venezuela, Promotes Lethal Chatbot

The US military flew two fighter jets over the Gulf of Venezuela for 30 minutes yesterday, the AP reported, the closest warplanes have flown to Venezuelan airspace since the regime launched its bombing campaign against the country in September. Since then, the US military has murdered at least 87 people in 22 airstrikes in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific. The AP’s anonymous source “could not say if the jets were armed and noted that they stayed in international airspace during their flight. The official likened the training flight to previous exercises that were aimed at showing the reach of US planes and said the move was not meant to be provocative.” Sure. Also yesterday, Secretary of Defense Peter Brian Hegseth announced the launch of GenAi.mil, “the future of American warfare.” According to 404 Media, it appears to be a chatbot interface for Google Gemini, which will “conduct deep research, format documents, and even analyze video or imagery at unprecedented speed,” and help “make our fighting force more lethal than ever before.”

Regime to Reject Tourists Visas Based on Social Media, Including From Closest Allies

Visitors from France, Germany, South Korea and the United Kingdom would be required to submit five years of social media history under a proposal the US Customs and Border Protection filed yesterday. The new rule would apply to those eligible for the visa waiver program, the NYT reported, which allows tourists who get an electronic travel authorization to stay in the US without a visa for 90 days. CPB also proposed to collect a raft of other information from visitors besides their social media, including phone numbers used in the last five years, email addresses used in the last 10 years, and the names, birthdates and places of residence for spouses, siblings and children going back years.

Act 399, which went into effect August 1, “and now looms over New Orleans as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol continue their latest invasion of a Democrat-led city as part of President Donald Trump’s mass deportation campaign.
