Militarized Federal Agents Attack Angelenos; Trump Sends in National Guard to Do Same
Wannabe strong man Donald Trump ordered the National Guard to Los Angeles Saturday night to punish people for standing up to the American Gestapo, then treated himself and his clan to a fight night in New Jersey, where they watched men and women beat each other bloody for money. Trump made the deployment order over the wishes of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who called it “purposefully inflammatory” and an effort to “manufacture a crisis.” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he might deploy the Marines, too, according to the NYT and social media, which Newsom called “deranged.” He’s right. Hegseth is deranged. Trump is deranged. This weekend is yet more evidence of that.
Trump’s order deployed 2,000 troops for two months, 300 of whom arrived yesterday. As of Sunday evening, no one in his fascist regime would say whether their rules of engagement included using force against protesters. That’s a long-held dream by Trump and his confederates, such as the bloodthirsty Senator Tom Cotton, who the NYT platformed in 2020 so he could puke out bile about how BLM protesters should be met with “an overwhelming show of force.” Trump’s lackeys are clearly excited to think that’s allowed in LA, such as “border czar” Tom Homan, who told NBC News that if “the rhetoric keeps rising and rising and rising – someone’s gonna get hurt.”
“If this violence isn’t tamped down, someone’s gonna die, and that’s just that’s just [sic] a cold fact of life,” Homan said.
The troops arrived after two days of what news outlets euphemistically referred to as “clashes” between protesters and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement in and around LA. It would be more accurate, however, to say that federal agents attacked civilians when they objected to state-sanctioned racist disappearances in their Mexican-American cities and neighborhoods.
Raids began Friday morning at a Home Depot in Westlake District and a pair of Ambiance Apparel locations in downtown LA, the LA Times and The Guardian reported. The FBI assisted. Protesters were outraged by immigration agents in their warzone costumes hauling away dozens of workers, and told them so. Agents responded by throwing flash-bangs and dousing them with pepper spray; KTLA 5 captured footage of federal agents in an unmarked SUV running over a protester and then driving away. “The condition of that person is unclear,” the outlet said. Among the injured protesters on Friday was David Huerta, president of SEIU California and SEIU-United Service Workers West, who Trump’s thugs shoved to the ground and handcuffed, The Sacramento Bee reported. The SEIU later stated that he had been taken to the hospital and treated for injuries. As of Sunday evening was still in custody.
“What happened to me is not about me; This is about something much bigger,” Huerta said in a statement the SEIU published. “This is about how we as a community stand together and resist the injustice that’s happening. Hard-working people, and members of our family and our community, are being treated like criminals. We all collectively have to object to this madness because this is not justice. This is injustice. And we all have to stand on the right side of justice.”
Federal agents spread their blast radius to Paramount and Compton the next day and met objections there, too. On Sunday, law enforcement agents continued to act like they had rabies. They shoved and struck people with batons, threw flash-bangs, aimed “less lethal” weapon launchers directly at people, including clearly marked members of the press, threw people to the ground unprovoked, and at one point triggered a stampede, the AP and LA Times reported. The people were steadfast in their protest nonetheless, and among other things shut down the 101 freeway in both directions by sitting down and refusing to leave. Israel Abducts Greta Thunberg in International Waters
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition said Sunday night that the Israeli military had attacked its civilian ship, the Madleen, which Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, European Parliament member Rima Hassan, and other civilian volunteers had been sailing to Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid. “The ship was unlawfully boarded, its unarmed civilian crew abducted, and its life-saving cargo – including baby formula, food and medical supplies – confiscated,” the organization said in a statement posted to its website. In a video posted to social media, Thunberg called on people to put pressure on leaders to release her and her fellow aid workers as soon as possible. Earlier in the weekend, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened the crew’s lives, saying that the military would block their vessel “by any means necessary.”
Kilmar Abrego Garcia Back in US to Face Federal Charges
Remember when Trump said he couldn’t get Garcia back from the gulag in El Salvador? He lied. Garcia returned to the US on Friday to face federal charges of smuggling undocumented people from Texas to elsewhere in the country and other alleged crimes, NBC News reported. His return comes after multiple court rulings, including by the Supreme Court, which said Trump can’t disappear people on a whim.
