National Guard Soldiers Kill Man in Memphis
A pair of Tennessee National Guard soldiers shot to death a 20-year-old man in Memphis on Sunday, the fifth “officer involved” shooting connected to the federal occupation of the city, according to the Associated Press. The soldiers were responding with local cops to reports of gunshots downtown at 4 a.m.; when they arrived, Tyrin Johnson ran and the soldiers chased him. When Johnson allegedly “turned towards the soldiers with a gun,” they shot him dead with two bullets to the chest. Johnson was the father of a young child and loved making music.
According to the AP, there are no federal or state court records showing Johnson had ever committed a crime. Local court records in Memphis and Nashville show that he only had “a handful of minor traffic violations.”
Since October, federal soldiers have occupied Memphis, Tennessee, against the will of residents and their mayor, Democrat Paul Young. They’re part of the Memphis Safe Task Force, Trump’s project with federal and local agencies to terrorize the city, as he is doing to other Democrat-led cities. By June, the task force had made 10,000 arrests and shot at least four other people.
