THE BIG NEWS
Mad King: US Can Fight War ‘Forever’
The US continued its joint operation with Israel to remake the Middle East, deploying more than 50,000 troops, 200 fighters and two aircraft carriers, with the goal of “shooting all the things that can shoot at us” and sinking the entire Iranian Navy, US Central Command, Adm. Brad Cooper said on Tuesday, according to the NYT. By yesterday night, the US and Israel had hit almost 2,000 targets with more than 2,000 munitions, double the scale of the 2003 “shock and awe” campaign, Cooper told NBC News. The mentally (and physically) unbalanced Trump said the US can keep that up indefinitely because America’s arsenal is so big that it can fight a war “forever,” according to Reuters.
Among the targets was Iran’s Council of Experts, 88 clerics who are considering candidates to lead the nation, Axios reported. Israeli military officials said they had bombed a building they thought the council was in because “we wanted to prevent them from picking a new supreme leader.” But members weren’t there because they met virtually instead, according to the NYT. Trump acknowledged that most of the potential new leaders he would have preferred were dead because he killed them. The next leader could be “as bad” as Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who he assassinated on Saturday. “Pretty soon we’re not going to know anybody,” Trump said. The Council of Experts’ “clear front-runner” is Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei. A politician close to him said he is “extremely progressive,” and “will move to sideline the hardliners.”
Iran continued to retaliate, with strikes on US embassies in Dubai, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, NBC News reported. US lawmakers will consider a war resolution Thursday from Reps. Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY), that would require US troops to immediately leave Iran, Politico reported. Yesterday, six moderate House Democrats decided it would be smart to introduce a worse idea. Henry Cuellar of Texas, Jared Golden of Maine, Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, Greg Landsman of Ohio, and California’s Jim Costa and Jimmy Panetta think leaving immediately is too fast. They’d rather let people die for 30 more days and leave then. Unless, of course, Congress approves using military force or a declaration of war. In that case, the sky’s the limit. Oh, incidentally? “Daily operations in and around Iran for these major military systems are costing taxpayers an estimated $59.39 million per day,” according to the Institute for Policy Studies. “That $59.39 million a day could instead cover the daily costs of Medicaid for more than four million Americans, or SNAP (food stamps) for more than 9.5 million Americans.”
MORE STORIES TO WATCH
Minnesota Investigating Illegal Federal Immigration Agent Behavior
Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty is investigating incidents of “possible unlawful behavior” by Trump’s deportation goons, including US Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino’s use of pepper spray on legal observers, according to The Minnesota Star Tribune. Moriarty asked people to submit evidence of illegal behavior to her newly created Transparency and Accountability Project, which will be staffed by county prosecutors and a civilian investigator. “There are many victims whose stories need to be told,” Moriarty said. “We will investigate and pursue charging where appropriate.” So far, Moriarty is investigating 17 separate incidents.
NY Attorney General Orders Hospital to Resume Trans Youth Care
NYU Langone closed its Transgender Youth Health Program because Trump threatened to cut funding for hospitals that provide transition treatments for adolescents. The state attorney general’s office told hospital administrators to reverse that decision at once. “You are hereby advised to immediately resume all service offerings as they had before the change in policy and to make medically necessary puberty-blocking medications and hormone therapies available for patients under 19 who are diagnosed with gender dysphoria,” the letter states. It required the hospital to notify the AG’s office of compliance within 10 days and threatened further action, including an investigation, if administrators failed to do so. Meanwhile, Trump’s cronies found another way to torment trans kids on Monday. The Supreme Court temporarily blocked a California law that banned schools from automatically telling parents if a student changed their pronouns or gender expression at school. Now school staff can act as “gender cops,” as Gov. Gavin Newsom put it, which is another way of saying that staff can violate students’ right to privacy and expose them to harm. via the AP and NYT.

- Justice Department Drops Cases Against Big Law Firms The regime gave up on its executive orders that sanctioned Jenner & Block, Perkins Coie, Susman Godfrey and WilmerHale, law firms that refused to fold to Trump’s plainly illegal crusade against lawyers and the rule of law. Trump’s orders would have required federal agencies to end contracts with certain law firms, among other punishments; nine big firms made deals with Trump to give him $1 billion in pro bono work to avoid such sanctions. via the WSJ.
- Bill Clinton Says Trump Told Him About ‘Great Times’ With Epstein House Oversight Committee members conducted lengthy interviews with the former president and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; Bill said he once talked with Trump “on his golf course” during a charity game, “and he somehow had known I’d flown in Jeffrey Epstein’s aircraft and he said, ‘You know, we had some great times together over the years, but we fell out all because of a real estate deal.’” via NBC News.
SOME NUMBER
$1.2 million
That’s how much taxpayer money Florida’s Republican Governor, Ronald DeSantis, spent every day running his “Alligator Alcatraz” concentration camp. State taxpayers are also likely to pay at least $608 million more on the camp; Trump was going to pay it but then changed his mind. “That was despite gloating by DeSantis in September that the state would be reimbursed from federal funds,” The Guardian reported. The GOP is the party of fiscal responsibility, you see.
