THE BIG NEWS
Judge Dismisses Trump’s Revenge Cases Against His Foes
A federal judge tossed the cases against two of Trump’s enemies, former FBI director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, because Trump illegally appointed the prosecutor who brought them, the NYT and Washington Post reported. US District Judge Cameron McGowan Currie ruled that the prosecutor Lindsey Halligan was an illegitimate appointment, so any cases she brought are illegitimate, too.
“All actions flowing from Ms. Halligan’s defective appointment, including securing and signing Mr. Comey’s indictment, constitute unlawful exercises of executive power and must be set aside,” Currie wrote. “There is simply ‘no alternative course to cure the unconstitutional problem.’”
