ICE Executes Second Community Defender - The Monday AM Quickie 12/26/26

Did you know that the federal government has a bank that gives tax dollars to big companies so they don’t have to spend their own on foreign projects? It’s called the Export-Import Bank, and its board members are meeting tomorrow in what is likely the first step towards giving our money to oil companies so they can plunder Venezuela. Yay. Anyways, I wrote about it. - Whitney

THE BIG NEWS

ICE Conducts Second Public Execution in Minnesota, Tells Witnesses ‘Boo Hoo’

Trump’s immigration death squad on Saturday martyred another person in Minnesota, a day after thousands of people flooded downtown Minneapolis and shut down the city to put an end to the federal immigration terror campaign, Bring Me The News, The Guardian, Minnesota Star Tribune, NBC News, and Zeteo reported. Alex Pretti was a 37-year-old Veterans Affairs Hospital ICU nurse, known by his family, friends and coworkers as a kindhearted and stalwart man “who lived to help.” He supported critically ill veterans, including one whose son described him as “just the sweetest person you can imagine.”

Videos of the execution began circulating immediately and show plainly that a masked agent executed Pretti by shooting him in the back, contradicting the federal government’s lies about Pretti attacking agents with a gun, which never happened. Video footage shows that he never pointed a gun at the agents or even verbally threatened them with one. He did not have a gun out when he approached officers; he had out his cell phone. Video footage shows that agents yelled that he had a gun after they had pinned him to the ground; it shows that an agent “pulls a gun from among the group” that looks like one the Department of Homeland Security said Pretti owned. Then another agent shoots him in the back. According to the NYT’s analysis, an agent or agents fired ten bullets in five seconds. One officer responded to the angry crowd that gathered by mocking them with “Boo hoo.”

Minnesota state troopers arrested multiple witnesses to the execution; one testified that she was afraid to go home because she heard agents were looking for her. “I don’t know what the agents will do when they find me. I do know that they’re not telling the truth about what happened,” she testified. “They shot him so many times.” ICE also blocked local police from the crime scene. A federal judge ordered the regime to preserve evidence, but Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison would not say directly if he thought the government would.

As of yesterday afternoon, the agents who assaulted and executed Pretti were still on the streets and will be reassigned to terrorize people elsewhere. Pamela Bondi, the paranoid attorney general who smirks her way through interviews and hearings, said in an unnecessarily long letter with footnotes that the regime will only recall ICE from Minnesota if the state gives up information about food stamp recipients, repeals sanctuary city policies, and gives her access to voter rolls.

The Clampdown: Minneapolis Execution Followed Statewide General Strike

  • 50,000 People Flooded Downtown Minneapolis Friday to Protest ICE Terror About 700 businesses in the Twin Cities and surrounding area closed to join the protest; multiple solidarity protests sprang up across the country. In New York City, Council Member Chi Ossé told protesters, “We need Nuremberg trials for the people of ICE, for the people who are committing crimes against humanity here in our country. I refuse to call them law enforcement. They are agents of chaos. They are destroying the fabric of our country.” via the Minnesota Star Tribune and NYT
  • Child Prisoners Inside Dilley, Texas Concentration Camp Protest for ‘Libertad Para Los Niños’ “The message we want to send is for them to treat us with dignity and according to the law. We’re immigrants, with children, not criminals,” Maria Alejandra Montoya Sanchez, 31, told a reporter via phone from inside the prison, where she has been held with her 9-year-old daughter since October. I reported last month that ICE is planning to imprison so many children inside the Dilley camp that they are opening a new school there. via the AP
  • ICE Death Squads Take Another Twin Cities Toddler Agents snatched lvis Joel Tipan-Echeverria and his 2-year-old daughter, Chloe Renata Tipan Villacis, and threw them in ICE prison; the same day an Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient said the death squads grabbed him off the street, denied him his legally required phone call, and held onto him for eight hours. via ABC News and NBC News
  • Arizona Attorney General Says State’s Stand-Your-Ground Law Allows Residents to Shoot Masked ICE Agents Kris Mayes said she’s not encouraging violence, just stating a legal fact. She also said real cops don’t hide behind masks. via ABC

Seven Dead, Millions Without Power in Enormous Storm

A massive storm brought heavy snow from the Ohio Valley to the Northeast, threatened much of the country with “catastrophic ice accumulation,” and put some 213 million people under various winter weather warnings, the AP and NYT reported. The storm’s 2,000-mile spread was unusually gigantic, a meteorologist said; as of Sunday night, it had knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people, especially in Mississippi and Tennessee. Airlines cancelled about 11,500 flights yesterday and delayed 16,000 more. Officials reported multiple deaths during the storm, including in Louisiana and New York. By Sunday afternoon, the number of dead was up to seven. The ice, snowfall, and bitter cold are expected to continue today, so check on your neighbors and be careful out there.

SOME NUMBER

100 percent

That’s the tariff amount Trump ostensibly threatened Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney with Saturday if Carney goes ahead with a trade deal with China. But Trump is really threatening people in the US. A recent analysis shows Americans are paying for virtually the entire cost of tariffs, yet another way Trump is grabbing taxpayer money while insisting that he’s keeping costs down.

PARTING WORDS

“Today we have to remember that freedom is not free. We have to work at it, nurture it, protect it and even sacrifice for it. May we never forget and always remember our brothers and sisters who have served so that we may enjoy the gift of freedom.”

-- Alex Pretti, reading veteran Terry Randloph’s final salute after he died in December 2024. Randolph’s son posted a tribute to Pretti on social media and included a video of him reading the salute, which NBC News republished.
