Israeli Officials Admit Hamas Doesn’t Steal Aid as More Kids in Gaza Starve to Death

After almost two years of pretending Israel withholds food from Gaza because Hamas will just steal it, military officials admitted that was all a lie, The New York Times reported on Saturday. Two senior Israeli military officials and “two other Israelis involved in the matter” said the government “never found proof that the Palestinian militant group had systematically stolen aid from the United Nations, the biggest supplier of emergency assistance to Gaza for most of the war,” and that “the UN aid delivery system, which Israel derided and undermined, was largely effective in providing food to Gaza’s desperate and hungry population.”

The only surprising part of this admission is that they made it and the New York Times published it. But “desperate and hungry” is a sanitized understatement for what is happening, which is that Israel is starving people to death on purpose. That’s been plain for months. Israel’s blockade has cut off food, medicine and power since March. Aid trucks sit at the border, unable to get in; Israeli public broadcaster Kan said Friday that the military “has destroyed and buried tens of thousands of aid items – including food and medical supplies – that spoiled after sitting too long at the Gaza border,” Al Jazeera reported. On Saturday, CBS reported that 85 children have starved to death in the last three weeks, along with 42 adults. One infant weighed less when she died than she did when she was born, the AP reported

The US-backed Israeli government has continued to lie, saying nobody is starving in Gaza. Nonetheless, the military yesterday resumed dropping aid from planes – a practice that has previously crushed people to death and destroyed critical solar panels, including at hospitals. Eleven people were injured Sunday when Israel dropped aid pallets directly on tents. The government will also conduct “tactical pauses” in fighting for one week and let in more trucks, The Washington Post reported. These lazy half-measures are too little, too late, and serve mostly to provide cover for the Israeli and American governments. By Sunday, more kids had starved to death, according to CNN, including a 10-year-old girl who was “little more than a skeleton when she died.”

US Sanctioning Torture at El Salvador Gulag, Released Prisoners Say

Venezuelan men who the Trump regime trafficked to a gulag in El Salvador are providing testimony on the torture they endured now that they are free, The Guardian reported. The men described lengthy beatings and constant humiliation by guards. In one instance, some prisoners tried to break the locks on their cell. Guards beat them “for six consecutive days.” Guards would come in at night to deliver beatings, did not feed prisoners enough, and gave them dirty water to drink. In an echo of the sexual torture US soldiers committed against prisoners in Abu Ghraib, “male guards reportedly brought in female colleagues, who beat the naked prisoners and recorded videos.” Guards also found other ways to humiliate and torment prisoners. Per The Guardian:

Edicson David Quintero Chacón, a US deportee, said that he was placed in isolation for stretches of time, during which he thought he would die, his lawyer told the Guardian. Quintero Chacón, who has scars from daily beatings, also said that he and other inmates were only provided soap and an opportunity to bathe on days when visitors were touring the prison – forcing them to choose between hygiene and public humiliation.

Minn. Cops Waited Over an Hour to Enter Rep.’s Home After Watching Gunman Shoot Her Husband in Doorway

Brooklyn Park police withheld information and delayed their response to victims in the assassination spree that killed Democratic Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband and wounded state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, according to an investigation by The Minnesota Star Tribune. Police knew from the first 911 call at 2:05 a.m. that a masked gunman was impersonating a cop but withheld that information from lawmakers for 10 hours. “Communication across a patchwork of agencies was also spotty, leaving some officials unaware of the threat for hours and raising questions about whether the suspect, Vance Boelter, could have been caught earlier,” the paper reported. Cops failed to follow their own procedures, including waiting “more than an hour to enter the home of Melissa Hortman after watching Mark Hortman get shot in the doorway.” The Tribune also found that police “didn’t immediately communicate an officer’s interaction with Boelter, which occurred after the Hoffmans were shot but before the Hortmans were killed.” State Public Safety Commissioner Bob Jacobson insisted that the cops “did an admirable job” but acknowledged that state public safety leaders ordered a review of their conduct.

SOME NUMBER

100,000

That’s how many people came to the London Trans+ Pride march on Saturday, making it the largest trans+ pride event in history. The theme, “existence and resistance,” was in response to the UK Supreme Court’s April ruling that a woman is based on biological sex; the size of the crowd smashed London Trans+ Pride’s earlier record of 60,000 people. F*ck yes, you love to see it and so do I. “The message was clear: we will not be erased. Our existence is natural, historic and enduring,” said Lewis G Burton, a founding member of London Trans+ Pride. “You can try to take away our rights, but you will never remove us from society. We are a part of humanity – and the public will not stand by while harm is done to our community.”
