Growing Majority Hates Trump Deportations - The Monday AM Quickie 7/21/25
Plenty of cautionary tales in the news lately. Don’t embrace the head of HR at a Coldplay concert. And definitely take off your giant weight-training neck chain before entering an MRI room. - Whitney

THE BIG NEWS
Most Americans Despise GOP’s Immigrant Terror Campaign
A growing majority of Americans oppose Republicans’ mass deportation terror campaign, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. Fifty-five percent of all survey participants, regardless of political affiliation, said Trump “has gone too far” deporting undocumented immigrants, 10 percentage points higher than in February. Virtually all Democrats and “Democratic-leaning independents” oppose the horror. Nearly 60 percent of all participants oppose the plan to build new gulags and 53 percent oppose giving billions of dollars more to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as the deadly GOP spending bill has done.
This number will continue to rise as more people watch masked agents dressed and armed for war descend on their streets to disappear them, their neighbors, and their loved ones. It doesn’t matter to the regime if you are an American citizen; take it from George Retes, a twenty-five-year-old Army vet, who agents attacked as he drove up to his job as a security guard at Glass House Farms in Camarillo on July 10. They ignored his statement that he was a US citizen, refused to say why they arrested him, and denied him a change of clothes and a shower even though he was covered in tear gas and pepper spray. Three days later, they let him go, no explanation.
Everyone should recognize by now that regime members care only about their own power. Giovanni Díaz, the attorney representing unjustly detained Atlanta-area journalist Mario Guevarat, put it like this: “For the first time in my life, I’m seeing what absolute power can do. Power that doesn’t care about optics. Power that doesn’t care about the damage to human lives to achieve a result.”
Guevara is an influential Salvadorian reporter who had worked in the US for years when Trump’s goons snatched him while he covered a No Kings Day rally weeks ago. They hid his whereabouts, shuffling him around to five different Georgia jail cells, then dropped all charges against him. Yet as of yesterday, Guevara remains imprisoned. A quarter of adults in the US are worried that immigration agents could snatch them, too, or someone close to them, a PEW survey found.

Epstein’s Ghost Following Trump Wherever He Goes
Maria Farmer, the first person to accuse Jeffrey Epstein of sex crimes, twice alerted the Federal Bureau of Investigation that Donald Trump was one of his associates, she told The NYT in an interview published yesterday. Farmer was in her mid-20s in 1996 when she told law enforcement Epstein was exploiting her and her teenage sister; she told the FBI about Trump then and in 2006 when FBI agents interviewed her again. “Ms. Farmer said she had no evidence of criminal wrongdoing by Mr. Epstein’s associates. But she said she was alarmed by what she saw as Mr. Epstein’s pattern of pursuing girls and young women while building friendships with prominent people, including Mr. Trump and President Bill Clinton,” the NYT reported. She encountered Trump in 1995. Here’s what she remembered:
“... late one night, Mr. Epstein unexpectedly called [Farmer] to his offices in a luxury building in Manhattan, and she arrived in running shorts.
Mr. Trump then arrived, wearing a business suit, and started to hover over her, she said she told the authorities.
Ms. Farmer said she recalled feeling scared as Mr. Trump stared at her bare legs. Then Mr. Epstein entered the room, and she recalled him saying to Mr. Trump: “No, no. She’s not here for you.”
The two men left the room, and Ms. Farmer said she could hear Mr. Trump commenting that he thought Ms. Farmer was 16 years old.”
(Sidenote: Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, was about 14 years old at the time.)
Meanwhile, Trump sued the Wall Street Journal shortly after it dropped a story about a lewd drawing he (“allegedly”) made for Epstein’s 50th birthday, which Corey wrote about Friday. Trump is seeking an absurd $10 billion, which is a little less than half of WSJ owner Rupert Murdoch’s net worth. Trump claims he didn’t draw the picture and has never drawn anything, despite making many drawings, including some that have been auctioned for thousands of dollars.
ICE Head Allows Gestapo to Keep Hiding Behind Masks
“I’m not a proponent of the masks,” ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons said yesterday on CBS Face the Nation. “However, if that’s a tool that the men and women of Ice to keep themselves and their family safe, then I will allow it.” This will not only allow agents to continue abusing people with impunity but will also enable the growing number of people posing as immigration agents to continue attacking the vulnerable, particularly immigrant women. According to Ms. magazine, multiple men in at least three states are facing arrest for doing just that: “Nearly impossible to distinguish between real and fake agents, men have allegedly lied about their identities to intimidate, kidnap and rape women with precarious immigration statuses, according to survivors’ accounts.”
