Germany’s Far-Right AfD Is Extremist Threat to Democratic Order, State Says
The white supremacist, Holocaust-denying political party Alternative für Deutschland is a “confirmed rightwing extremist” threat, Germany’s spy agency determined Friday, a label that allows the state to increase its surveillance of the group, including tapping its phones and recruiting secret informants, according to CNN, DW, and The Guardian. The designation adds fuel to the growing calls to ban the party, which can be undertaken by either house of parliament or by the government.
AfD’s racist, anti-Muslim ideology and its “ethnic-ancestry-based understanding” of German identity are “incompatible with the free democratic basic order” established in the constitution, the state agency said. It “aims to exclude certain population groups from equal participation in society, to subject them to unconstitutional unequal treatment and thus to assign them a legally devalued status.”
AfD is Germany’s biggest opposition party and won 20 percent of the vote in February’s general election to come in second. It got a boost from Nazi-saluting South African absentee father Elon Musk, whose big televised face loomed over an AfD rally as he told 4,000 attendees that “German culture and German values” are good and ”multiculturalism” is bad. After the sovereign nation of Germany decided its domestic political party is an extremist threat, other Trumpworld meddlers saw fit to opine, including the North America-based US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who lives across an ocean and who used social media to express his irrelevant thoughts about Germany’s immigration policies. “That’s not democracy,” Rubio wrote.
“This is democracy,” Germany’s foreign office replied directly to Rubio. “We have learnt from our history that right-wing extremism needs to be stopped.”
A poll this weekend by the group INSA for the newspaper Bild am Sonntag found that 61 percent of Germans agreed with AfD’s new designation and 48 percent said they would support banning the group.

Trump Budget Gives More Money to War, Less to Everything Else
Trump has decided to run the country like a business – specifically, like a private equity firm that guts an acquisition before flipping it for profit. Under his proposed budget released Friday, Trump would cut federal spending by $163 billion next year – nearly a quarter of the overall budget – in a plan that has even riled Republicans, according to The Washington Post. The cuts would formalize the illegal, unilateral funding reductions that Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency has already inflicted on federal services, including Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, child care, climate assistance, education, research and development, renewable energy, and many other functions Americans pay for with their taxes and rely on to survive. Also slated for cuts are the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the FBI, The Guardian reported. The Department of Homeland Security and the military, however, are not on the demolition list. Homeland Security is getting a whopping 65 percent increase. The military is getting a 13 percent increase, raising its total budget to more than $1 trillion and putting the lie to Trump’s promise to end forever wars.
House Considers Bill to Make Boycotting Israel Illegal
The House is scheduled to vote today on bipartisan legislation that would make it illegal for Americans to participate in pressure campaigns against Israel, such as BDS, the House calendar shows. HR 867, the “IGO Anti-Boycott Act,” would fine US citizens up to $1 million or send them to prison for up to two decades for participating in boycotts of Israel or Israeli settlements. Lawmakers are also considering multiple acts that target China and on Tuesday will consider Marjorie Taylor Greene’s bill renaming the Gulf of Mexico. Healthcare when? Never?
