THE BIG NEWS

FBI Investigating Dem ‘Traitors’ For ‘Illegal Orders’ Video

Trump continued his revenge campaign against enemies of the regime by siccing the FBI on Democratic lawmakers who made a video telling troops that they can refuse illegal orders, NBC News, NYT and the Washington Post reported. The six lawmakers are military veterans and former CIA officers; they said yesterday that the FBI had requested to interview them. Trump has also called them “traitors,” who had committed “seditious” crimes that may be “punishable by DEATH!”

The four House Democrats who appeared in the video issued a joint statement, accurately remarking that Trump is using the FBI “to intimidate and harass” them.

“No amount of intimidation or harassment will ever stop us from doing our jobs and honoring our Constitution,” said the statement from Reps. Jason Crow of Colorado, Maggie Goodlander of New Hampshire, and Chris Deluzio and Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania. “We swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. That oath lasts a lifetime, and we intend to keep it. We will not be bullied. We will never give up the ship.”

The two senators who appeared in the video are Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Elissa Slotkin (D-MI). The alcoholic former Fox News employee Peter Brian Hegseth, who unfortunately is the Secretary of Defense, has singled Kelly out for an extra dose of bitchy harassment. Hegseth sent a memo yesterday to US Navy Secretary John Phelan, ordering him to investigate Kelly for making “potentially unlawful comments” in the video, the Guardian reported. Phelan, like Hegseth, is a uniquely unqualified hack, best known for donating money to Trump, founding a private investment firm, and possessing zero military experience. The day before, Hegseth told Kelly on social media that if Kelly is ever recalled to active duty, “it’ll start with a uniform inspection,” because Hegseth saw a picture of Kelly and believes the numerous medals on his chest were out of order.

States Sue Regime Over Cutting Help for the Unhoused

Nineteen attorneys general and a pair of governors sued the regime yesterday for slashing funding and making other changes to the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Continuum of Care program, which connects unhoused people with permanent housing and other resources, Politico reported. The regime cut more than half of the program’s 2026 funding for permanent housing, put new conditions on people to access the program, and gave HUD permission to “deny funding for organizations that acknowledge the existence of transgender or nonbinary individuals.” New York Attorney General Letitia James is leading the group of plaintiffs and is seeking a court order to block the changes to the program. According to internal HUD documents Politico obtained, the cuts “could put 170,000 people at risk of experiencing homelessness.”

Bolsonaro Forced to Start 27-Year Prison Sentence

The former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro had to start his prison sentence early, the AP reported, because he tried to bust out of his ankle monitor and run away. Cops preemptively arrested him on Saturday and he claimed he tried to flee because a change to his meds gave him a nervous breakdown and hallucinations. But nobody was buying it. Instead, a Supreme Court judge decided he had to stay in the clink, where he’ll lead a solitary existence for the next three decades but with some creature comforts: “Bolsonaro will not have any contact with the few other inmates at the federal police headquarters. His 12-square-meter room has a bed, a private bathroom, air conditioning, a TV set and a desk, according to federal police. He will have free access to his doctors and lawyers, but others will have to get their access approved by the Supreme Court.”

SOME NUMBER(S)

Ages 9, 32, 66, and 83

Those are the distinct “epochs” of the average human brain, according to new scientific findings that identify “markedly different characteristics in brain architecture” at certain ages, NBC News reported. It’s the first time that researchers have identified such periods of brain activity, which suggests “that human cognition does not simply increase with age until a peak, then decline.”

PARTING WORDS

“I have things to say. And if it means being wounded to do it, then here I am.”

-- Vincent Hawkins, a 55-year-old emergency room worker in Portland, Oregon, whom federal agents shot in the face with a “less lethal” weapon when he was protesting outside of an immigration detention center. He is one of the dozens of people ProPublica and FRONTLINE interviewed in an investigation into the American Gestapo’s use of such weapons to maim American citizens and noncitizens alike. Per ProPublica:

The so-called less lethal weapons are designed to break up mobs engaged in dangerous behavior or deter would-be assailants who pose a threat. They aren’t intended to kill. But research has shown the weapons can cause devastating injuries or death. Federal guidelines generally prohibit agents from targeting the head, neck, throat or spine when firing projectiles like rubber bullets or pepper balls.
ProPublica and FRONTLINE conducted dozens of interviews at protest scenes, reviewed hundreds of pages of court documents and photographs, and analyzed some 50 video-recorded incidents in which immigration agents and officers used these weapons in the last five months. That review found more than two dozen cases in which officers deployed the weapons in ways that appear to flout the government’s own rules, including by aiming at someone’s head, spine or groin and deploying chemical agents at moving vehicles or near children.
