Dems Waste Their Chance, Again
Senate Democrats decided to squander another opportunity to force major concessions from Republicans last night, the NYT and Washington Post reported. With just 30 hours before the deadline, Senate Democrats made a deal with Republicans and Trump to pass five spending bills that fund much of the government for the rest of the fiscal year, which ends on September 30. They also agreed to a “stopgap measure” to fund the Department of Homeland Security for two weeks “while they continue negotiating guardrails to rein in immigration agents.” That measure gives $64.4 billion to DHS, including $10 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, its existing level of funding. Democrats framed this as a victory.
It’s likely funding will still lapse briefly because the package must be approved by the House, which is on yet another vacation until Monday.
When Democrats negotiate on the DHS funding bill, they’ll be starting from a place of weakness and compromise right out the gate. Here’s what Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) says Republicans must accept to earn Democrats’ support: “End ‘roving patrols’ by requiring warrants in some cases and requiring ICE to coordinate with state and local law enforcement; create a uniform code of conduct for agents and use independent investigations to enforce it; and require agents to wear body cameras and to not wear masks.” In other words, minor cosmetic changes that will allow the terror campaign to continue apace.
Meanwhile, the little boy federal agents in Minnesota used as bait to entrap his dad is deteriorating in a Texas concentration camp, according to HuffPost and The Guardian. Five-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos and his father, Adrian Conejo Arias, have been imprisoned at the concentration camp in Dilley for mere days, and Liam is already sick, according to Democratic Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro, who visited them. Castro posted a disturbing photo of Liam clearly ill in his father’s arms, ashen and unresponsive.
“Liam is getting sick because the food they receive is not of good quality,” Ramos’ mother told MPR News. “He has stomach pain, he’s vomiting, he has a fever and he no longer wants to eat.”

County Attorney and DOJ Charge Omar Attacker
Anthony Kazmierczak is facing charges from local and federal officials after he allegedly threw a brown liquid on Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, according to The Guardian, Hennepin County Attorney’s Office and the HuffPost. The liquid was later identified as a mix of water and apple cider vinegar.
The Department of Justice affidavit says Kazmierczak “forcibly assaulted, opposed, impeded, intimidated an officer and employee of the United States” while she was engaged in official duties. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, meanwhile, charged Kazmierczak with one felony count of terroristic threats and one count of fifth-degree assault. Moriarty noted Omar is “frequently the target of vilifying language by fellow elected officials and members of the public,” and suggested that she filed simultaneous charges out of fear that Trump would let Kazmierczak off the hook, given his public hatred towards Omar. “The trust of our community in the federal government keeping politics out of public safety has been eroded by their actions,” Moriarty said in a statement. “A state-level conviction is not subject to a presidential pardon now or in the future.”
Immigration Terror Campaign Hands Corporate Execs $22 Billion (So Far)
Palantir, Deloitte and other companies have together drawn $22 billion in government contracts to enact Trump and the GOP’s mass deportations, the Financial Times found in a new analysis. “Consultants, tech groups, charter airlines and a gravel company headed by an ally of the US president have been among the biggest beneficiaries” of the campaign, especially after the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill law in July. Per the FT:
“Fisher Sand & Gravel, a group headed by Republican donor Tommy Fisher and contracted to build portions of a wall along the southern US border, has earned the most from CBP contracts, receiving more than $6 [billion] since July. The biggest single beneficiary of ICE contracts has been CSI Aviation, a broker of charter flights to the agency, which has secured more than $1.4 [billion] of work since Trump returned to office last January.”
Other names on the list of big winners include BCCG A Joint Venture, Deployed Resources, CSI Aviation, immigration prison provider Geo Group, SLS Federal Services, Acquisition Logistics, CACI International, Anduril Industries and Barnard Spencer Joint Ventures.
