THE BIG NEWS
Abrego Garcia Endured Months of Torture in El Salvador Gulag, Lawsuit Says
Maryland father Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia endured months of torture after Trump illegally deported him to a gulag in El Salvador, “including but not limited to severe beatings, severe sleep deprivation, inadequate nutrition, and psychological torture,” according to a renewed lawsuit filed yesterday to Greenbelt, Maryland-based U.S. District Court Judge Paula Xinis, and reported on by the AP, The Guardian, and The Washington Post.
The filing is the first time Abrego Garcia has described his experience in the gulag, and it makes for difficult reading. The violence and abuse began right away, when his was the first name called to disembark the plane that took him to El Salvador on March 15, after the Trump administration deported him in violation of a court order. Abrego Garcia described officials grabbing him, shoving his head down, clapping a second set of chains and handcuffs on him, and repeatedly beating him when he tried to lift his head. “Upon arrival at CECOT, the detainees were greeted by a prison official who stated, ‘Welcome to CECOT. Whoever enters here doesn’t leave.’” The beatings continued as Abrego Garcia was made to change into prison clothes, had his head shaved with a zero razor and marched to cell 15, “being struck with wooden batons along the way. By the following day, Plaintiff Abrego Garcia had visible bruises and lumps all over his body.” The horror continued through the night. Per the lawsuit:
“In Cell 15, Plaintiff Abrego Garcia and 20 other Salvadorans were forced to kneel from approximately 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM, with guards striking anyone who fell from exhaustion. During this time, Plaintiff Abrego Garcia was denied bathroom access and soiled himself. The detainees were confined to metal bunks with no mattresses in an overcrowded cell with no windows, bright lights that remained on 24 hours a day, and minimal access to sanitation.”
Abrego Garcia is suing Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Attorney General Pamela Bondi, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, and other immigration officials. The regime resisted a judge’s demand to return Abrego Garcia to the US, then abruptly brought him back last month to face human smuggling charges, Politico reported. Asked about the lawsuit, Department of Homeland Security shill Tricia McLaughlin ridiculed both Abrego Garcia and the media and called his ordeal a “sob story.”
